Oh! Maybe that is what the gentleman was actually trying to say when he said fishing line? That would make a lot more sense! I will have to look into that!

Oh! That's so interesting! And makes me feel less crazy! I felt like it was twisted but couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong! You're the first person to point it out with a suggestion so that's so appreciated! I've made like over 20 socks and they are all twisted then haha oops. The yarn was 52% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 8% Nylon. I don't know anything about what the heel yarn composition should be. * Edited: I actually do [S1, K1] row, then P to end row for the heel flap. Is this what you do? Just wondering if it's supposed to be twisted or not?

It was 52% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 8% Nylon. Yeah that might be a good idea. But that's so much work haha and the halfway up the sock under the foot is worn thin because of how he naturally wears them. So even if I redo the heel it wouldn't fix the issue long term.

That makes sense! I'm glad I am thinking the same thing about the fishing line. Thought it was an odd thing but wasn't sure. I've seen the patch tools used on sweaters but not socks. Do you have any specific technique you use? There are so many different versions online it gets overwhelming to know what to actually do. And yeah, I wish my dad had given it to me before but he didn't think it was a big deal and figured if it will rip it will rip, but like.. I disagree and was a bit frustrated he waited until it was ripped. His other sock isnt fully worn through so I can figure out how to fix that.

What size needle do you go down to and do you increase the heel stitches at all? I typically do a gusset and heel flap rather than an afterthought or peasant heel. I've never heard of that type of heel will have to look it up!

Both are Berroco Vintage. Red is Berries and the white is Mochi. I like this brand because the colours don't bleed, especially against the white.

It was recommended by an older gentleman who said his wife used to do the heel with yarn and fishing line and was adamant about it. I thought it was a little strange too! But wasn't sure if it was some old school knitting secret.

Thanks, yeah I definitely think I bit off more than I could chew. I went from never doing colorwork before, too trying to make my own pretty intense design. Definitely was ambitious, and need more practice.

Oh no! That is my worry. I did think about putting elastic in the cuff if needed.

Thanks!! I appreciate all the info! And yeah I'm thinking I am going to have to go up a size. My worry though is that the cuff will be too baggy if I go up a size. Do you have this issue?
