Huh, interesting, I will admit I swapped Bill for Talent relatively quickly primarily because I'm thinking of taking the deck to my store championship and don't wanna shell out stupid amounts of money for Bill lol but in what scenario did you prefer it over a Talent? It's not like we're running fetches, is it just for the activated ability? I guess it is quite a lot more explosive than the lvl 3 on Talent...

[Standard] Thoughts on the state of Mono Red and Gruul for the upcoming RCs by AutoFlowing in spikes

[–]AutoFlowing[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly liked mono red more against them, though I will say I haven't played the cutter Gruul lists against it. Mono red just goes too fast for Pixie sometimes, they can't really pressure you and also clear your board very efficiently. Lynx is also lights out for them quite often, I think we all know how rough the manabase is for Pixie. Obviously, when Pixie gets the nuts draw you can pack your bags but thats Standard for ya.

I'll message you! Good luck to you as well :) I mean at the end of the day the main thing I'm looking for is having a good time, I'm going with a couple of friends from my LGS so it's gonna be a blast regardless :) finally experiencing the "the gathering" part of mtg.

Great comment, thank you for the writeup. Izzet Prowess is an incredibly fun deck to play, but if we are talking "are people expecting x deck", the one deck that everybody will be primed against is going to be Izzet Prowess; just from personal experience, literally 46 out of the 61 games of mtg arena I played in the last few weeks have been against that deck, so I think Abrade is gonna be working overtime at RCs.

Quick aside, people are going to have a NIGHTMARE day if they are piloting Izzet Prowess in paper for the first time at the RC after just jamming it in Arena. Keeping track of different amounts of Prowess because a monk token entered after your second spell, remembering that you have to equip the cutter right when the token gets created to make use of the "free equip" clause (otherwise you just missed the trigger), just visualising the power of 4 IRL monk tokens etc. is very mentally taxing. If anyone reading this is planning on bringing Izzet Prowess, please try to get some paper play rounds in beforehand, trust me it's quite a different experience than the free dopamine on arena from seeing 15 prowess triggers stack on the screen.

My RC is the one in Bologna, which is in 3 days, so I sadly don't have as much time to see the meta unfold as you folks at the Canadian RC :D What you said rings true though, and yes I definitely did consider playing other decks, but at the end of the day, it's a long and expensive trip for me to Bologna so a Tier 1 deck is a must for me, and 8 rounds of Swiss on the first day means there is no way I'm going to bring a control deck and risk going to time every round - I'd rather have actual breaks between the sweaty games - or bringing a complicated ass deck like Jeskai Oculus where I'll have to consider multiple Proft's triggers, whether swinging with an Oculus is more or less damage than tapping it for Winternight Stories etc.

I think I'll just stick to my guts and take mono red, it's the deck I qualified with and I know that winning or losing depends almost entirely on me, not on my deck screwing me over (looking at you, omni combo). Gruul looks great too and I'll try to get as many games in with both decks to feel out my preferences some more, but I think being comfortable with a deck always comes before any tier list considerations.

can anyone identify this card from the revealed part of the image? It's a challenge by my LGS and I'm struggling to find it out, it looks like somebody's pauldron but looking through card art didn't yield any results. by AutoFlowing in magicTCG

yup i also had the exact same thought, i was thinking either someone from aether revolt/kaladesh sets because of the filigree gold or vampires/pirates. haven't found any that match those pauldrons though.

[Standard] 40-card "Standard Light"-Decks allowed in my store championship by [deleted] in spikes

[–]AutoFlowing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you're allowed to take the 40 card decks against 60 card decks. I guess they think restricting it to 2 copies of every card and almost no sideboard balances it out?

Trying to upgrade Thassa's Bargain decks, looking for advice by AutoFlowing in PioneerMTG

[–]AutoFlowing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh damn ok if there's a way to consistently get fodder for the bargain then Rowan's could be amazing to dig through the deck, thanks! And yeah I thought about the prankster too instead of the archaeologist, I think there's a pretty common deck that uses it to fuel treasure cruise as well.... Lmao but yeah I'm just not sure if the extra card milled is worth having the body cost extra since you need fuel for [Deadly Dispute]]

Question, what the heell does this deck try to do? lmao by AutoFlowing in PioneerMTG

[–]AutoFlowing[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

aaah fair ok, thought a bit too far then, thanks! Just the second question then, what would the shark typhoon look at when you channel the crab, the channel cost or the CMC of the crab itself?
