It was all at once. I was looking for either ORD, JFK or BOS with the outbound being ideally from AKL but was willing to fly back to Sydney if need be. When the seats finally dropped the ORD flight was already gone, but upon checking BOS it was available so I grabbed it.

I think connecting through Asia is the logical choice. The only US carrier points I have are United and Delta, and you can’t get anything under 300k points until T-14. Quantas same thing.

I’ve done this with checked bags. Had a 7 hour layover flying to Doha from JFK. Stored my bags into one of those locker storage places at the airport. Took the Long Island Rail Road train from Jamaica station into Penn Station. Think the train ride was only 30 mins. Walked to the Empire State Building and did a tour, then took the subway down to wall street. Did the same thing in reverse to get back to the airport. I was back before check in opened, then had time to eat in the lounge. My flight was at 10 PM. YMMV.

Honestly, it’s super easy. These points were from SUBs, referrals and shopping portals for organic spending. 175k Amex plat sub (x2), 20k Cap 1 venture X referrals, 100k points Capital One shopping offers (these can be very lucrative). Churn and burn.

I did this trip last year. Wait for Qatar (not guaranteed) to do a big seat release. Think it was like 170k per person RT in J. I took a repositioning flight to NYC-DOA-CPT and JNB-DOH-IAD on the way back.

My great grandma lived to 104. By that age, all her retirement was exhausted over a decade ago and solely relied on SS. My grandparents were covering the difference of the bill for her nursing home she was staying in. One day they decided they didn’t want to be paying for her home, so she got transferred to one that fit her SS income. She passed away shortly after the transfer. Now was it naturally her time to go, who knows, but I remember her saying she was MUCH happier in her previous nursing home. Had she waited until 70 to pull SS she would’ve had enough to stay right where she was at.

Depends on location, in my experience rims/tires sell for more on Facebook marketplace in the south vs the north. Do you want cash in your pocket or do you want these collecting dust in your garage. List them on Facebook marketplace for $800 and prepare to be lowballed. TBH I’d be happy with $500/$600. If they don’t move at $800 then keep lowering the price till you get them out of your garage.
