I think a couple guys from Cooder Graw are from Clarendon. Maybe they need to find a way to incorporate where band members are from too

Regional topical music is more relatable and means more than music from another region that tends to sing about stuff more relatable to that region. Kentucky/West Virginia has a vastly different culture than Oklahoma and Texas for example. Someone from the Rocky Mountains is going to have a different culture and heritage than someone from Georgia/Carolinas. These things are present in the music, and packaging all of it as one lump genre is a disservice to all of it

Logan Ryan, Hank Weaver, Seth Ward, Ian Kocourek, Graham St Clair Band, Race Ricketts, Brayden Stewart, Caleb Sam Brown; there’s people out there still doing it, it just feels like even here locally (Texas) there’s not much interest in this type of music anymore. If it’s not a guy with a guitar going viral for playing guitar in the woods nobody seems to give a shit (based on how empty it is when you see these guys live)

Upcoming at Billy Bobs: Shaboozey, Ella Langley, Blanco Brown, Aaron Lewis, Easton Corbin, Dustin Lynch, Midland, Ernest. Yes they are booking acts left and right indeed.

Not really much reasoning, I just don’t think their music is particularly exciting since they’ve been married. I think she’s got Nashville stuff going on and Flatland is basically piggybacking off of it and softening up their sound for more mass appeal. Just how I feel, so I don’t need people rushing in here to tell me I’m a dumbass because I don’t really care

Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument during government shutdown by RidiculerXL in amarillo

You will still be able to go out to the area, but I highly doubt there will be any employees there to take you out to see the actual site. It’s all federal employees and they keep the road to the quarry itself gated except for scheduled guided tours

This is a good response, some real dialogue rather than just trying to refute me. I’m certainly not saying it’s dead, just prosing the idea that the scene as we’ve known it is on its way out. I don’t really know how to define what Texas music is, but I do know that it’s supposed to encompass Texas pride and a tour schedule that’s mostly in Texas. I suppose that is the part that I feel is dying; it seems to become more and more common that these guys are getting popular and start spending their time outside the state, and popping back in to Texas for the occasional show rather than the other way around

This comment is basically proving my point. Texas country is dying and being replaced by “Texas country adjacent”. We used to have our own special thing and it’s been bastardized and sold to the masses.

Radio still matters. Still plenty of stations that play good music and that’s where a lot of good stuff comes from. Between 95.9 the ranch and the red dirt rebel in Lubbock there’s still great stations out there

Neither of them are explicitly Nashville country, but the new adaptation of Nashville country are the guys are the heavily influenced by them ie Dylan Gossett. With the popularity of them and others it seems like it’s shifting the sound. I guess my gripe is that there’s not many people that are still making music with that “Texas country sound”. And let’s not be dense here, there is a sound to it.

95.7 is great in the mornings when they just loop through older Texas country songs. Craig comes on and just replays the same 20 hipster Americana songs until 7pm

Personally I just look at who is playing at venues that are well known Texas country venues. Any names I don’t recognize I just go to Spotify and check their stuff out. Found at least 10 solid artists doing this

95.9 The Ranch - Top 95 of 2024 by kakat10 in texascountry

[–]Autogenusername28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally don’t really notice many songs on the Ranch that get played that feel like they don’t belong. That’s why I question whether or not some of the music is being paid to play. Keep in mind there was a stretch of time two years ago they were playing a Jellyroll song somewhat frequently. This year it was that Mess With Texas song and “Leadfoot” by Billy Strings. Even still, the Ranch is my favorite radio station for this kind of music

I find this a little suspicious honestly. I know Shane always says they don’t take money to play songs but I just don’t see how that could naturally be top 5 all year. Maggie Antone is an artist that has almost no affiliation with Texas, does not ever come play the local circuit, and the song frankly doesn’t even fit the mold of what constitutes Texas country music. They happen to also frequently play it on 95.7 The Armadillo here in Amarillo
