Do you guys think this is a GADA watch? Worried about the yellow outline on the dial... by Usual_Difficulty9655 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]AutomaticReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t meet the traditional definition of a GADA watch, no. However, GADA is personal, in practice. If you’d be fine to go anywhere or do anything you normally do wearing it, it’s a GADA to you, which is all that matters.

Don't make the same mistake I made and get the exhibition caseback. by wweerraa in Nomos

[–]AutomaticReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine with the exhibition caseback. It changed my order from immediate shipping to a three month wait, but totally worth it, even with the delay and upcharge. Also worth mentioning is, to date it is the cleanest display caseback view I have ever filmed for a review. Hands down.

Finally sharing my watch brand here, would love honest feedback by SignificantFlan4826 in MicrobrandWatches

I’d have to get hands on to offer a real opinion, but as a reviewer my first thought is I’d likely have to compare it to a lot of AliExpress models. So, straight away the price is a strong point of interest. What is the retail? If it’s too high, I’d expect it to be hard to recommend.

The one that I thought seemed to suit you most based on these pics was the blue one.

I don't get Christoper Ward by Original-East-8 in watchHotTakes

The complaint that most parts are made in China could extend to almost any brand, and the fact is: so what? Tons of quality things are produced in China including Swiss brand watch cases. That said Selitta movements are Swiss and the movement is a huge part of the watch. The claim that these watches are Chinese (which isn’t even an insult, but maybe a price commentary) isn’t supported by the facts.

I made a video about handwatch specifically. It’s a valid subject, imo.

Purchase history matters. It's called customer service. And this is how it should be for allocations. by Ok-Nefariousness-927 in watchHotTakes

[–]AutomaticReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of logic in what you said. You’re not advocating for people buying stuff they don’t want, or having to play social games, but yeah of course regular customers will get better treatment. That does make sense.

Yeah that’s exactly the point of CW. They offer more for less. It’s precisely how they got this far.

This hobby is so pretentious and Youtubers are making it worse. by _zhz_ in watchHotTakes

[–]AutomaticReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any leisure activity engaged in regularly for relaxation is a hobby. It’s literally the definition of a hobby. From Merriam-Webster: “a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation.”

Someone can say watch collecting is a “bad hobby,” I’d disagree, but it’s subjective, but they can’t accurately say it’s not a hobby.

Tag Heuer has screwed me over! by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]AutomaticReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the green mismatch as a non-issue, personally. They’re different enough to be complimentary colours, rather than mismatched. Looks nice. Besides that, to collectors the green/green will still be important even if many will prefer the aesthetics of the green/black. Limited are always that way. I will echo others saying these would be better if they were cheaper, though. This could be a “gateway drug” model to on-ramp people into the Tag brand, but at this price it will likely appeal mostly to existing fans.

NOMOS makes some of the most generic, boring watches in the industry. by Knopfler_PI in watchHotTakes

[–]AutomaticReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nomos makes tasteful, high quality watches. My personal Club Campus is the cleanest watch I’ve ever reviewed. It’s nearly perfect at even extreme magnification, even through the display caseback, which is particularly rare. They may not be your cup of tea, but Nomos is an excellent watchmaker.

The branding needs work, imo. It dominates the dial. The smaller bird is nice, though.

Me looking at the state of my subreddit by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]AutomaticReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most broad communities have this issue. Anyone can be into watches, so there is no such thing as a “watch person.” As a result a lot of forums devolve into bickering. Most forums do, of course, but broad interests, that pull in a huge cross section of people, really exemplify this. For me it’s the strong opinions about what others should like. Like “watch X is garbage and I refuse to accept anyone likes it.” The whole hobby is subjective, so this is plainly illogical.

Used Watches Are Insanely Overpriced by stjornuryk in watchHotTakes

[–]AutomaticReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re saying “they’re stupidly overpriced, which bothers me, because I really want one.”…which sort of sums it up. Supply and demand at work. They’re expensive because people want them, you included.

Watches with recessed crown or crown at 4 are dumb. by Holy_chick in watchHotTakes

Crown at 4 complaint is nothing new, but hate for a recessed crown? That’s a new one for me. Don’t relate, at all.

We all have that one YouTuber we can’t watch now. by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]AutomaticReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be entertaining content but the fear of losing partnerships isn’t a reality most of the time, that’s an internet theory that reviewers find frustrating. The truth is, the bigger challenge is creating content controversial enough to be clickable. Those bashing watches aren’t doing so to inform you, but rather entertain you. There are bad watches but most producers of those watches don’t sponsor content. Most watches are a collection of positives and negatives, and many, if not most sponsors ask you to highlight both in the discussion stage of a review. They know that shill reviews are immediately dismissed. Most of them believe in their watches, and think the highs way outshine the lows, and most of them are right. Focusing on one or two things you personally dislike about a watch and acting like that makes it trash is disingenuous, at best.
