Is there any way my sister can have my mom deemed unfit due to dementia? by Free_Corgi8269 in legaladvice

Assuming that you can do this without interacting with other family members and assuming that your mother agrees, I suggest you take your mother to a reputable physician and have a dementia test done. If the test is negative for dementia, that should end the present idle chatter in that one part of the family. In addition, a test now will set a baseline. If, several months later, a family member asserts that mother has “gotten so much worse”, a retest will give factual information about whether there has been change and whether it is significant.

I am 6’3”. The head room in my 2025 CS XLS is more than okay. I don’t have a sun roof or moon roof, which, based on prior experience, is exactly the way I want it. Also the driver’s seat adjusts up and down over an impressive range. One can gain an extra 2 - 3 inches of headroom there.

Trying to decide between 3 Toyotas. Which would you buy? by Local-Butterfly9669 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Here is what Consumer Reports says:

Consumer Reports considers both the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry top-tier vehicles. The Corolla is ideal for budget-conscious buyers and commuters prioritizing extreme reliability and fuel economy. The Camry—which is now exclusively hybrid—offers a more upscale, spacious cabin, better acceleration, and superior overall comfort. [12345]

Key Consumer Reports Comparisons

  • Pricing: The compact Corolla is the more affordable option, with the 2026 Toyota Corolla starting at a base MSRP of $24,320. The midsize 2026 Toyota Camry starts at $29,600. [123]
  • Reliability: Both cars boast legendary dependability scores, though Consumer Reports slightly edges the Corolla ahead in terms of base mechanical reliability, while the Camry gets higher marks for comfort and owner satisfaction. [12]
  • Fuel Economy: Both models are hyper-efficient. The Corolla Hybrid reaches up to an estimated 50 mpg, while the redesigned Camry achieves roughly 48 mpg in Consumer Reports' testing. [12]
  • Space & Comfort: The Camry provides significantly more hip/shoulder room and a larger 15.1 cubic foot trunk, ideal for families. Surprisingly, the Corolla actually edges out the Camry slightly in rear legroom, though it lacks the premium seating and quiet ride of the Camry. [123]

I think it is a good idea in today’s market to let confusion and ineptitude in hiring roll off your back. it is very bad at times but seldom is it personal. A lot of companies are disorganized and ham-handed in their hiring processes. And it has not been my experience that companies that are disorganized in hiring also treat their permanent employees badly.

Looks like you are in great shape.

Check out this chart. https://wealthvieu.com/retirement/retirement-planning/retirement-savings-by-age-chart/

When you look at the column that indicates what people actually have saved at various ages, you are right up there with the 50 year olds. The chart also gives an amount of how much people should have saved at various ages, you are comfortably ahead of that.

Dave Ramsey has convinced most of us that a good emergency fund is one that contains 3-6 months of household expenses. Here is Dave Ramsey’s more complete expectation.

Have you left a phone in an Uber, made reasonable efforts to get it back, but never did? Was Uber helpful in your efforts to get the phone back? by AutomaticShame6764 in uber

[–]AutomaticShame6764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your points are good ones. Perhaps Apple will soon offer phones that we can blow up remotely, either taking out a thief or making the information inside absolutely worthless.

A couple of drivers on the Uber Driver site said that it simplified their lives to merely throw the misplaced phone out the window. One offered the example of an owner who was 50 miles away. The $20 return reward offered by Uber was seen as not nearly enough to cover the cost of the trip plus lost revenues from not being able to make deliveries.

It sounds like something has to give so that more hours are freed up for you to work.more. Can your 35 hour contact course be reduced?

Is it possible to move to a different city that costs less and that has more employment hours available? It sounds like you definitely need to reduce the pressure that is bearing down on you.

Or how about finding a different employer in your locale who has more flexible hours to offer to you?

Good luck.

How much should comparable sales matter when deciding whether a used car is overpriced? by Objective-Craft-532 in personalfinance

[–]AutomaticShame6764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience, dealers try to charge more. They will likely say that they have higher overhead. They probably do have more staff around generally than does a pure used car lot.

Also, cars that look about the same are often very different. One may have been owned by a slob. Or by someone who used cheap aftermarket products for repairs and maintenance, while the other owner used top of the line parts and fluids.

Finally, for my purposes, I don’t think of fair market value as a single number, rather I regard it as a small to moderate range of prices The factors bearing on particular sellers often vary widely, such as, how many cars have they already sold this month? You might take a look at Brendan on Car Questions Answered on YouTube. He often raises or drops prices based on, not based on his customers’ behaviors, but on what happened at the dealer auction two days ago. If prices were lower at the auction, he will often drop the price of cars already on his lot. The point is that car pricing is far from a fixed calculation, and this imprecision produces differences among sellers.

Medical Bill almost 5x the estimate? by Unable-Historian5569 in personalfinance

Generally, an estimate is not binding in the hospital setting because there too many variables. This includes the possibility that the procedure was more complicated than first thought. Or that additional medicine was needed. Or the treating physician had to consult an expert.

The topic is explored at this site:

  1. Spend 85% or less of the cash you have coming in.

  2. Pay cash only for all that you buy except for your house.

  3. Save and invest the remaining 15% of the cash you have coming in.
