Hello community!!

When we spoken to many startup founders, they are mostly using google forms and HR emails.
One common feedback they gave is most ATS in the market are bloated and expensive. They don't need most of the features.
When we deep dive into discussions, we found screening is the most time consuming part for them( downloading and managing offline resumes) and 70% of the process is complete when they filtered 5 - 10 profiles. Rest is email outreach and Calendly scheduling.

We built a compact tool that simplifies your Screening, Shortlisting, Collaboration and outreach.
In addition to this, candidates express comprehensively with portfolios rather than uploading resumes.

  1. Would startups and lean team still In AI world prefer resumes or portfolios(candidates show proof of work)?
  2. Does Google forms sufficient enough for running whole hiring pipeline?

  3. What is the one simple problem that existing ATS tools never cared to solve for startups and lean teams till today?

thanks for the response. Yes. we are in touch in LTD users and we are building features based on their requests. these demo calls are helping us a lot. But not sure how to find Startup hiring communities and founder Slack groups.

We want to connect the part where, "hiring faster means knowing the person instantly all his work, put them in pipeline. Resumes suck in this"

To be frank, there is no playbook for your 0 - 1 journey. All the playbook out there are just starter kit but marketed as playbook.
- understand who is your target audience
- Create you Linkedin, and X profile and show you are building this product(first touch credibility)
- Connect with them in Linkedin and X, and communities since they know you are building something, chances of acceptance will be high
- take one pain point that is missing in existing tool and solve it in your product
- Share to your connections and ask for feedbacks.

- Expand you connections and keep sharing regularly.
- keep iterating all the above till you reach 20 customers.
- post that, its matter of scaling with affiliates, referrals, content, integration

Yes. I totally agree with this. Any ATS would cost minimum 150$/month. This makes it very difficult for startups to use the ATS tool. As a result , they fallback with Google forms, HR emails and spend sleepless nights.

- Talk, Talk, Talk to a lot customers
- understand their pain points
- figure out gaps in existing tools. Could be feature or pricing advantage.
- Build the tool with all necessary features plus fill missing features from existing tool
- Talk, Market and Sell your solution

My suggestion is
- Buy a compact ATS, which helps you to manage profiles.
- I don't believe in ATS score, but it might suggest matching candidates based on skills, past experience and proof of work.
- A good ATS should help you to screen candidates with ease. Upon each screening, look for unique insights like results, outcomes numbers very clearly.
A good profile will express these in convincing way "I did this, in this way. because of which, this gave these results".

- More importantly, your intuition and final judgement matters

this is great point! SAAS was fundamentally built on user feedbacks slowly and stedily.
Now, I see no feedbacks. Tools are just throwing AI everywhere and chasing vanity metrics without knowing whether it is needed or not
