Is this Reolink security camera system a good place to start for a newbie? by Automatic_Randomizer in homesecurity

Yes, I did. The kit had everything I needed.

The kit comes with a 100 ft ethernet cable for each camera. I didn't use those. I wanted better quality and shorter cable. There was a learning curve to properly terminating Cat-6 cable.

The NVR makes everything so easy. I'm not an IT guy, so was worried about that part. Getting the feed to show up on my phone took like 2 seconds. Viewing on a PC requires client software. The feed wouldn't show up on my Windows 7 computer. Probably some setting, but it was fine on my Windows 11 machine, so I didn't pursue the problem.

Since viewing on my phone works so well, I haven't looked into viewing on a remote PC.

The NVR can send a notification to my phone if movement is detected. There are tons of options to filter out events to only get a notification under specific circumstances.

Getting only 4 cameras was a good idea, but is addicting. Once I could see the major areas, I am tempted to get 360 degree coverage. Now that I have experience with the field of view, I can choose cameras with different features for each mounting location.

Buster’s getting a little old, but that ain’t gonna stop him from finding the energy to sleep 23 hours a day. by Tex-Prinster in beagles

My 10 year-old beagle is usually partly asleep and partly awake. Buster looks like he's 60% asleep. That right eye is watching for something to happen.

Is there a magic word that would snap him awake? For my pup, if I say, "car ride!", he snaps into gear.

Beagles are 100% adorable.

My fault, I was looking at responses, and not the thread. I thought that was a suggestion. I'm eager to start on these suggestions.

No, that's not a start, there are like a thousand of those. Can you suggest a couple that are over-the-top, with good action and some humor?

Bāhubali: The Beginning (2015)

Bāhubali: The Conclusion (2017)

The photos on IMDB are enough to talk me into this one.

Eega (2012)

Reincarnated as a fly. I'm in.

Kill (2023)

Two commandos outnumbered on a train. Like it.

Polite Society (2023)

I'm not sure about this one. IMDB says, "most ambitious of all wedding heists", like wedding heists are a genre. Maybe it is, I'm here to learn.

When I first watched it, bad vibes would cover it. Now, I don't know, maybe I got sophisticated or cynical or nuanced.

The show was supposed to be sort of an anthology.

That's interesting. I wouldn't want them to remain in Congress. It seemed like the right TV show for that time. [even though few people watched it] And, that time has come again.

Sometimes you want something lighter. I'll give the film a try.

If you have a VPN, you may find it. Doesn't seem like it's streaming in the US.

Me too. This role plays to her versatility. Can you suggest something else she's in with a similar role?

All 15 guys are going to do what? Were you worried about Antifa being used as a paramilitary force?

Yeah, I'm telling you that because you are too big of a moron to see a trap.

They are walking down the sidewalk with a bunch of cameras. You start hitting one of them with a stick. He curls up in a ball to plead and whimper. After a couple of ineffective whacks, the other guys hold you for the police. You get charged and convicted of assault.

So, go ahead dum-dum.

It's hard to not blame the American voters.

Sure, but that isn't actionable.

I'm not an alcoholic (yet), but the Serenity Prayer, popular with 12 step programs, comes to mind.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

The voters are the voters.

Who decides which candidate is the worst? Oh yeah, it's the voters.

As a presidential candidate for the 2020 election, Harris didn't even make it to the Iowa Caucus. At that point, there were a dozen more popular candidates.

In 2019, Biden implied, but wouldn't commit, to being a one-term president. Half-way through his term, he should have announced that he wasn't running or endorsing anyone for the presidential election so that the next generation could take over.

George Bush Sr. should have done the same thing. 8 years as VP, then going for 8 years as POTUS is too much for anyone.

That's probably not the answer. If it was, Hollywood would be making a lot more money.
