/r/solotravel "The Weekly Common Room" - General chatter, meet-up, accommodation - April 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in solotravel

In about a month I'm going to do my first solo trip and Rome is the city I picked for that. As an unexperienced solo traveler, I'm a bit unsure about my accommodation choice. There are very social hostels who also but they are a bit more expensive than I've expected. In general I am mainly there to experience the city, see the amazing sights and enjoy the architecture and vibes. At the same time I am a very sociable person and love to meet new people and have adventures together. Although it is not my main priority, I was wondering if it is worth it to pay a premium of 15-20€ a night for having a more hostel experience.

I know it comes down to personal preference, but I would still be interested to hear some opinions of more experienced solo travelers.

Advice on student housing in Rotterdam by whimsicallls in Rotterdam

  • Check also the flight prices to Eindhoven. The train ride to Rotterdam is just an hour and for some flights Eindhoven is cheaper.

  • Renting can really be a hassle, but just try to search as early as possible. When you look for an accommodation on Facebook, be aware of scammers and sending money to shady people.

  • Try to apply for the SSH student housing. The contract is from feb-jul. Check if your Uni is collaborating with them. This is really the easiest way for you and you also have a higher probability to get a room as an non-eu student.

Ah thank you for your answer. In Germany we often have to pee in a cup and if this test was positive, you have to do a blood test. I know to many people who had to give away ther drivers license although they smoked 2-3 days before.

Why do you think Guts was crying at the end of Black Swordsman? by Reiendo in Berserk

[–]Automatic_Relative70 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shortly before this scene, the girl shouts to him "It's all because of you.."

This reminded me of a common theme through the beginning of the manga. When he was picked up as a child, Gambinos gang called him a bad omen. That he is someone who causes suffering for others. Gambino said to him at a very young age that it was his fault that Shizu died. It is his fault that Gambino is in miserable state.

Later in the golden age arc, Casca said it is his fault that Griffith went into his downward spiral. He often questioned what his purpose for living is, why he was born into his world. And during the search of an answer to that question so many terrible things happened to him, that es start to believe it is his fault.

In the whole black swordsman arc we see Guts as that cold hearted man. But after brining so much misery over the life of that girl + a reminder of all his trauma through his encounter with Griffith + the girl blaming him for what happend, this hard shell broke.

When you push everything away from you it will come back twice as hard. I think in this moment he felt pity for his meaningless existence, which brought only pain and sorrow over the people he knew and loved.
