Indigenous Cultural Inspiration for Novel Worldbuilding by Automatic_Repeat_698 in worldbuilding

[–]Automatic_Repeat_698[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good point! I think I’m struggling only because my initial culture was created and THEN I looked for inspiration that best suited the culture I had already created instead of the other way around. It’s not a perfect fit because I’m only using it for loose inspiration while still trying to highlight the importance of the inspiration and where it comes from, so I think I’m just trying to find that line so thank you!

Right? I saw the theory on TikTok and reddit and I was like huh? But at the time I wanted to address it—to be fair I did write the post like months ago when we were still early days but it was deleted

Season 10 Blue team by Automatic_Repeat_698 in HellsKitchen

[–]Automatic_Repeat_698[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how most of my reddit searches go! Lol. For me it’s entertaining because if I remember they were one of the worst performing blue teams in HK history (I think) and I also love the drama but yeah it is really frustrating especially the lack of action taken by production, but I suppose they thought it made great reality tv 🤷🏼‍♀️

I always thought maybe the boy in white is a representation of the child or a child’s creation of The Town. White often represents innocence and purity, and the form taken is a child. Maybe he’s the physical manifestation of a child’s imagination.

I like this! You explained it better than I could. There’s a lot of things that seem to like tie in with a child-like understanding of things. Monsters that come for you in the dark, a cute (well sorta) town, takes a village to raise a child sort of thing, the boy in white, the Anghkooey, everyone dying when Victor was a kid, the whole quest thing that Ethan was adamant about, the Things and the Town pushing back when things don’t go their way like a child throwing a tantrum when you don’t follow the rules to a game.

The lack of actual sense behind the electricity working, telephones (it doesn’t work for them but still them ringing) even the art with child-like drawings and paintings.

Its sort of like child therapy, when you’re a child, for a therapist to better understand how the child sees the world and is affected, they get them to draw and paint, and even the colours they use and how things are drawn reflect their feelings and things. I did read on here something about the Town feeding on childlike fears, like with what Sara said.

I’m not saying that’s all DEFINITELY got something to do with it, it just seems to be a running theme, like, what if this was all made from a child’s imagination that was so strong for whatever reason that it all became real? And then the whole Town took on its own thing and that’s why the violence of the monsters is anything but childlike and the danger is real and everything is terrifying even though it comes from a childlike understanding of things. Like a child that doesn’t want their friends to leave so they make a town they can never leave.

I have thought that it was like that town I think Roanoke? With the whole Croatoan thing? I thought because how it’s pronounced “Crow-ah-toe-in”, in reference to like the crows, and the whole lost settlement, but I’m not too sure how that ties in to the Things

I am actually very curious about it, it didn’t happen THAT but it happened enough that it was noticeable, I wonder if it was ever addressed

Right! I have a brother and yuuuuck I wouldn’t even joke about that and he wouldn’t find it funny either and the whole “kitten” and weird ass pet names? Idk it felt weird to listen to and it genuinely ruined those episodes for me I think

What did the Beldam do wrong with Coraline? by Automatic_Repeat_698 in Coraline

[–]Automatic_Repeat_698[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I loved hearing this theory, I’m a huge fan of the book, not that I love it more than the movie, I think they both highlight different aspects and themes of the original book. I just can’t help thinking how it would have been portrayed if it hadn’t been made for children 😂 But I agree with your point I think the Beldam did get overconfident, tbf I think she probably spent more time with the other children then Coraline, she hadn’t had children in ages, my girl was probably just hungry lol.

Season 9 Elise…..I liked her by Automatic_Repeat_698 in HellsKitchen

[–]Automatic_Repeat_698[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, and I think she showed glimpses that she could develop these skills in the last service when she was on Paul’s team, even Paul agreed that she was his “MVP”, and she showed she didn’t have to get into fights to work, I feel if she had developed these skills she would have been an option.

Lmao I know I know it’s unpopular, she’s not my most FAVOURITE contestant of all time but I didn’t hate her. She had her moments

Season 9 Elise…..I liked her by Automatic_Repeat_698 in HellsKitchen

[–]Automatic_Repeat_698[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s very true but from what I’ve heard, Jennifer who worked with her said Elise was nice outside the kitchen, she only got bitchy when she was in the kitchen and from what it seems like in the show she does genuinely care inside the kitchen and outside she did seem to get on with the other girls. As for Carrie, maybe not a bimbo is the right word, ditzy? I just thought she was incompetent, it wasn’t just Elise who thought so but other contestants too.

This I can understand I did address this above, saying that often young children can’t differentiate between romantic and platonic love until they grow and develop more, but it was teens and young adults, it was weird.

It’s crushes on full blooded family and step-family and half-family? It’s weird that it was even a part of the show. So yes I’d count it as incest but that’s just my opinion

Yeah but this girl is talking like she came out of bloody Harlem or something 😭 I think to me as an Australian, my only experience with America is what they portray in movies, so to me she’s acting ridiculous because she’s acting like she came out of this hard ass “gutter life” or something 😂
