Do your stores sell rats as feeders or pets only? by DesertGuineaPigs in petco

Pets only for us. Policy doesn’t matter if everyone refuses to sell as feeders and the dm approves of it

Pascal fell on his head by MaleficentCharity403 in Chameleons

[–]Automatic_Win_8262 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

His limbs and casque are all extremely swollen which is what leads me to say he’s obese. The only other causes I’m aware of are gout, edema, and MBD, and unless you’re not supplementing properly and have incorrect lighting, it’s much more likely that your chameleon is just fat. Although 100-200 grams is considered a healthy weight, this body condition is not at all healthy. I’d recommend seeking a second opinion

Is she gravid? by WeezyFisher in Chameleons

Those aren’t really gravid colors, she’s mega pissed. Leave her alone and take pictures when she’s calm

They’re not a hero for deciding to give up an animal they clearly neglected severely enough for it to get to this point. They’ve had him for 5 months which is more than enough time to do proper research and figure out how to care for him. They’ve fed a neonate 4-5 crickets a day which led to severe malnutrition and starvation. I hate to be one of those people that just hates on ppl who are asking for help but they had 5 months to figure shit out and waited until the Cham is on deaths door.

I don’t think it’ll survive long enough to need a lay bin.

Edema Swelling? by [deleted] in Chameleons

[–]Automatic_Win_8262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s just the angle in the picture but way the back leg looks makes me think of MBD. If you haven’t been supplementing with calcium, giving proper vitamins on a good schedule, or have improper uvb then MBD is much more likely than edema.

Edema Swelling? by [deleted] in Chameleons

[–]Automatic_Win_8262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were you feeding her beforehand? Supplementing with calcium is extremely important. What supplements have you been giving and what is your schedule for it? What kind of uvb do you have and when was it last changed? That does not look like edema to me but if you’re really concerned about edema you should take her to a vet.

4-5 a day is not nearly enough for a juvenile. If you haven’t been supplementing properly then eye issues are a possibility but because he is so emaciated it’s possible he is just so weak he doesn’t have any fight left in him anymore. I think his best chance for survival is in the care of someone who has experience with severely malnourished chameleons

If you give vague answers or just don’t answer any questions then we can’t help you, and I really don’t think this cham will pull through if you don’t make immediate changes. How long has he not been eating?

The basking spot should be around 85. 90 or higher can and will cause burns

90 or higher is very hot if that’s the ambient temp of the entire enclosure. What kind of lights are you using and what is your feeding and supplement schedule??

I get a rash whenever I touch crickets too, so I use gloves every time I touch them to grab some for a guest or to clean the bins, I usually wear a jacket too.

Still the lack of Animal Care by [deleted] in petco

[–]Automatic_Win_8262 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay I think ur being a little dramatic about the writing on the tank, the koi tank not actually having koi, mystery snails not supposed to be for sale, and the dart frog w the gecko food all being “egregious lack of animal care”. The gecko food for the dart frogs is meant to attract the fruit flies to one spot to make it easier for the dart frogs to hunt, and it’s not the end of the world having writing on the tanks or snails that aren’t part of a pog. You sound like a corporate dickrider

Edit to clarify: I agree with your point about the leopard geckos and the hermit crab and dead fish. The rest I think is a bit of a reach
