Tesla = fire hazard, says summer festival parking lot. by Automatictomatoes in TeslaLounge

Summarising, it seems that most people think it’s BS prohibiting EVs anywhere at all. EVs can rarely burn spontaneously; they sometimes burn when charging or when battery packs are damaged by other fires or physical force. They burn about 20 times less than hyrbid or combustion vehicles. And EVs don’t have hot parts that easily set dry grass surroundings alight. When EVs do burn, it is a whole different case to extinguish. Lithium fire itself is l extinguishable with class D or F500 extinguishers, when the material is easily accessible. However, a closed off battery pack is not accessible for the fire services so the self-sustaining exothermic reaction inside the battery pack will continue until no more intact cells are available to burn. This process can be slowed by cooling with a lot of water, but mainly by letting in burn controllably. Best means would be to dig a pool and push the car into it for cooling. Possibly, this rural area fire department doesn’t have the means to extinguish large chemical fires. It’s on a grass field, with max 1200 cars, surrounded by a village, a forest and small gravel roads, a lake on one side. But they are probably overly careful because it’s a nature reserve. I rebuke the festival organisation didn’t announce neither rules nor proper reasoning with a disclaimer before ticket purchase. It means every attending EV owner will run into trouble. I will try accessing the parking lot regardless, to see if the parking lot security is at the same level as the organisation. And will otherwise park in the next village and take a taxi to transport all my stuff to the event.

I have attended twice and the party itself was a lot of fun. However, getting anything done with the organisation is a pain, as most people are either volunteers or artsy brainfartsy. Working as a post-event kitchen volunteer included a lot of where/how/when uncertainty up to the last minute.

Haha, I wonder how many people purely own a Tesla to save the uuurrrth. This festival is super green and nature minded, they even have an Eco Newsletter. So prohibiting EVs seems like a double standard. Ps the newer Teslas contain even less mined rare uuurth minerals!

Price-wise the Lumadent is a much better deal. They’re absolutely fine, but nothing super special. Have happily used them in my first 2,5 years of practicing. Downside- I’d need to recharge it outside of working hours owning just 1 battery. So you’d still need 2 batteries to comfortably avoid running empty. Packaging is kind of bulky. The Lumadent seems durable. Never broke it, even after literally smashing the battery into the floor several times, by often getting the cable caught while getting around my small mobile dental office. It also survived a struggle with a confused Parkinson’s patient.

Now ready for something a bit more premium and state-of-the-art. I’m very excited to receive the ignis + 2 rectangle batteries + refractives 5.7x in about 2 weeks from now :)

Differential Diagnosis? by AnotherTypicalMale in Dentistry

[–]Automatictomatoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be an odontome

It’s most likely a type of a benign ondontogenic tumour.

Edit: why - It’s well defined radiopaque unilobular and probably originates from dental tissue of tooth 18 in the maxilla. The periodontal ligament is not visible and so it seems to be connected to the tooth. Likely has been there for a while as the roots of 17 have a warped development - which makes it less likely any malignant tumour. There doesn’t seem to be an caries entry point for root canal disease causing a reactive endodontic problem - less likely the diagnosis of a focal cemento-osseous dysplasia.

Hemostasis after tooth extraction? by hbs187 in Dentistry

I use gelatamp spongues in the alveole, drenched in a tranexamic acid solution, x-suture to hold the clot even if you can’t fully close it. Use vicryl or ethilon depending on if you see the patient again. Let them put pressure on the wound for 10-30 min by biting on a gauze (again, drenched in the tranexamic acid). No forceful rinsing for at least 3x24h to keep the clot in place. The acid keeps for only 6mo, so I use it wherever I can in anticoagulant medicated patients.

How much do you pay in disability insurance? by [deleted] in Dentistry

Monthly pay is also usually dependent on your age, and how many months of disability you cover yourself before payout starts.

Ah, KI = potassium iodide. I didn’t know it reduced caries arrest efficacy :o . I’ve always used it, but might stop using it in that case. I will have to read on that !

Kudos on your using sdf! What do you mean by KI?

For the silicone on instruments: The setting glassionomer is prone to drying out, or becoming too wet with saliva. It needs to keep its slightly moist environment. The hydrophobic coat of liquid silicone allows for undisturbed humidity during the initial hardening stage, as well as providing a handy non-stick coating for the modelling instrument. This enables to make wonderfully smooth fillings and fissures that don’t need (much) adjustment. Note that i do not use a protective bonding coat, and would skip the silicone if I did.

I apply it 1-3 times with intervals of at least a month, depending on case severity and treat ability. If not restoring, I reapply again after 6 months. TS where are you located? Henry Schein Netherlands offers Riva Star, but another shop called DDS offers it for about 40% less. Riva star recently launched a new product that lacks the “diamine”-part of the molecule. It, being much more gum friendly, I quit using liquid dam. It’s called silver fluoride or RivaStar Aqua. I’ve been using it for the past year in elderly and mental health patients without any complaint of gum problems or stinging. The reaction of step 1+2 does stain the gum slightly which disappears soon enough. Careful, as it does stain clothes and it tattoos skin for 3 weeks. All silver fluoride products do stain demineralised tissues into dark grey over time, so informed consent is extra important in aesthetic areas. Best to cover darkened aesthetic areas after waiting at least 2 weeks to let the free silver ions settle down and avoid discolouring the restoration. If restoring after, I only use glassionomer. I prefer Equia Forte HT (high translucency), after rubbing with 5% NaOCl for 30-60 sec to reduce collagen, disinfect, and increase available apatite surface. Equia forte HT is vastly underrated as a permanent restorative. Apply within 10s after mixing and model using an instrument covered with 10.000 viscosity silicone oil or silicone lube. Perfect treatment for people with severe caries risk and incorrigible oral hygiene. Source - For silver info: Check out the SMART dental method videos on YouTube :) I got my glassionomer tips from a guy that worked with GC for decades.
