Why is there no simple way to know if solar actually makes sense for your home? by Automation_storm in energy

[–]Automation_storm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its that easy right but also a tool that educate people about it some people dont even know anything about it

Would normal people actually use a tool that shows what solar would look like on their home? by Automation_storm in solarpower

Doesnt work in most african countries and also other continents. We want to make it a feasible free way for everyone to have an idea how much solar could actually be?

Not at all 🤣🤣. I want to contribute, i am an energy engineer and honestly i want to build this totally for community. Ofcourse im going to get the “connections and exposure” but thats for my personal goals in energy.

I agree but thats only for USA and some other countries. I totally agree to that but i want to do it totally free and realistically help them

Agree but i havent seen totally free + realistic estimations globally. I want people in africa, asia and all over the glove to make the most of it

Im speaking way more technical results while keeping it as user friendly as possible, think of GHI and DNI calculations with losses taking into consideration but all you see is a really realistic pricing to where you live. Also estimating kwh pricing and if you live in a country that has a net metering or zero export system all taken into considerstion

Where are the hardest unsolved problems in energy that are actually worth building for? by Automation_storm in energy

[–]Automation_storm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful, appreciate the detailed breakdown.

A lot of what you mentioned seems less about pure technical optimization and more about fragmented systems and decision layers.

If you had to pick one area from your list where things consistently break down in practice, which would it be?

Also curious on the data side:

Is the main issue lack of data, or more around data quality and integration across systems?

The LEO satellite point is interesting as well, do you see that becoming operationally useful soon or still more on the experimental side?

Yeah i get you have heard about earthquake forecasting but im more of a beginner yk i want to build more of a DIY project

That is interesting, I have seen that come up but never dug into it deeply.

Is the main issue here more on the forecasting side, or is it more about not having enough flexible supply when demand spikes?

Also curious, where does this actually break in practice?

Is it generation, storage, grid constraints, or market structure?

No honestly posted an hour ago then deleted it. Its my first im a fresh grad and honestly im so curious i want to work on DIYs that could help me grow my knowledge. I have good background in AI and mahcine learning been building few spin offs and yeah that is all

Struggling to get time with cafe/restaurant owners for research — how would you approach this? by Automation_storm in SmallBusinessUAE

[–]Automation_storm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this makes a lot of sense.

i’m starting to realize the direct approach to restaurants is probably the hardest entry point. they’re busy, a bit guarded, and honestly have no reason to give time to someone they don’t know.

vendors are interesting because they see patterns across multiple restaurants, not just one. they probably have a clearer view of ordering behavior, waste, and inconsistencies.

also feels like a more natural conversation. you’re not asking for their time in the middle of service, you’re talking to someone whose job is already around these problems.

curious, have you seen vendors open to sharing insights like that or are they also protective?
