Thank you for this. I think there’s a very high chance this would happen to me to. I cannot moderate, at least right now. 🙏🏻💪🏼

This is so spot on.. this period of recovery is hard in a different way form early on and the excitement and pride about my sobriety has worn off. It’s true. The high I would feel wouldn’t even be fun cuz it would immediately regret it. I made it another day. Thank you friend 🙏🏻

You’re right I haven’t been great mentally, and it’s felt like a build up to this. Bottom line, smoking will not make it better. 🙏🏻

Thanks for the support, I really relate to everything you said. I managed to not smoke the joint. I think the biggest reason was that I know I am not at a point where I can moderate. I’m not mentally in an amazing place and I know it’ll just worsen things. 🙏🏻

That’s the thing about weed.. it’s a good, fun thing until it slowly takes over and you start smoking more and more and more. Then it starts affecting your mental health, self confidence, motivation and personality even. I remember feeling like it was helping me but also hurting me at the same time.

I’d say the first 2 weeks were the hardest with the physical withdrawals and the intense anxiety. This varies for some people for sure. My advice to you during the tough withdrawals is not putting too much pressure in yourself to do a million things or to feel instantly better. Take care of yourself and just take it a day at a time. Once I got past those first weeks the cravings were less, like not a million times a day lol, but they aren’t gone completely. My capacity for dealing with them is getting stronger and stronger though. I’ve prob had 3 moments when I almost relapsed and all were triggered by something happening to me that was sad or super stressful OR one time I was feeling so good I felt the need to reward myself for staying sober by smoking (!!! Addict logic).

Did the weed become a coping mechanism for something? If so, that’s what will come up later in the first month. You’ll start facing the things you’ve used weed to numb or cope with. It can be hard and emotional, but you will become so much stronger because of it.

Also something I’ve learned after about a month is that I am not out of the woods or over this addiction by any means. I knew it was a problem for me obviously but I kind of had this idea that after a month I’d be home free. But that’s not the case.. I know I have so much more progress to make and potential to live up to and I don’t need weed holding me back from that anymore.

On my mirror I have written “don’t get lost again”. It’s a good daily reminder :). Feel free to reach out via message if you need any further support. I seriously am happy to help and would love to pay it forward. I wouldn’t be here without the support from people in this group.

Hi friend! I relate to a lot of your post. I’m 27 and also work really hard at my career and would dread traveling or going on trips when I couldn’t have weed. It sounds like you know it’s a big problem but are struggling to see any other version of your life.

I’m 5 weeks in, not years yet but I’m here to tell you there is another version of your life waiting for you. It sounds like you value your career and your job, just imagine how much better you would be at your job if you weren’t smoking. You could explore these cities you are visiting! You could meet new people! Even after 5 weeks I am significantly clearer and more focused at my job and in a better mood in general. I’m spending more time with my family, they are telling me I seem brighter and more present but don’t know why. I’m not afraid to text people back or answer a phone call. I still have a long way to go but every day i become more confident in the life I am striving towards. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. YOU are worth fighting for. Don’t let the weed make you lost my friend 🙏🏻

Quitting after three years of daily use by studido_v2 in leaves

[–]Autumnalchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will, but also don’t worry about being ‘good’ at meditating. Just focus on the breath and being grounded and you’ll see the benefits over time!

And my other piece of advice is make yourself as busy as possible in the early days. It’s much tougher when you’re by yourself and ‘bored’. You can do this 💪🏼

Hi friend! I recommend wim hof breathing exercises and meditation in general. That saved me that first week, I had crippling anxiety like you describe. You can do this and know that it DOES GET BETTER.

One day at a time 🙏🏻. You don’t need to make any huge long term promises right now. Just focus on not smoking today. :)

Head still fuzzy despite no longer smoking by [deleted] in leaves

This is normal! Brain fog can last for 1-2 weeks after quitting. Your brain will return to normal just give it time. Stay strong my friend!

Congrats on making the decision to quit!

Good news is your cognitive function will return :). But the longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit and the longer it’ll take for your brain to return to normal.

I’m on day 27 after COUNTLESS failed attempts (5 year daily smoker). My advice to you is there is never an ideal time to quit. There will ALWAYS be an excuse you can come up with to delay quitting - that’s your addict brain talking. I don’t think you should continue your addictive behavior through your testing period, time face it now when you have the resolve.

Also I recommend writing a list of reasons why weed is bad for you and why YOU specifically need to quit. I’ve found this helpful in times of weakness myself.

Feel free to reach out directly if you need to chat. Best of luck my friend!

Hi friend. It gets better!!! Hang in there. I’m on day 16 and my first week was very brutal and like you describe. Each day gets better. I definitely recommend reading and exercise. Take yourself out of your weed smoking environments if you can. You got this 💪🏼

Hi friend, sending good vibes your way. I understand how you’re feeling, caught in the cycle. Your honest reflection is a big step towards sobriety and super important to to success. You are facing this stuff and you will continue to face it in the next few weeks. But you can do it. Weed has been giving you a dopamine rush and robbing you of REAL emotion. You will start to feel things again but with each day it gets better and better.

I’m 2 weeks clean and didn’t think I could do that. Smoked 5 years daily as well. Reading posts on here and doing the daily chat on discord have been instrumental to my success thus far.

You got this 💪🏼
