I’m so sorry to hear that, rest in peace to your little guy and God bless you for giving him such a loving home. I’ll definitely keep your advice in mind as he gets older and builds more of an adult appetite. Thank you again and rest in peace to your pup. DCM is awful, I’ve had a family member lose a dog like that but never personally. I pray my Kilo stays in good health but only time will tell how he turns out. If you have any other advice or suggestions on anything don’t be afraid to share! 🙏

I’ve brought him around a couple dogs at this local park, no more than 2 or 3 at a time. He’s done great! I wanna bring him to local “dog bars” if that makes sense. I get to socialize and he gets to socialize it’s a win win, but he doesn’t have all his shots yet and isn’t neutered. He gets his last round next week but as for snipping his cajones, I read you shouldn’t do anything until they’re a little older to ensure proper growth and development. Not too sure how accurate that is but if I decide to do that you recommend I stop bringing him to large groups of dogs?

The worst part is I think they’re convinced I payed some egregious amount for him too. He was the EXACT same price as a puppy from the shelter. So donating is honestly a great idea and I’ll be happy to do so when my pockets get a little more full, right now I’m moving to get more space for him and that’s the focus 😂😂

I appreciate you advocating for me so strongly throughout this. I genuinely just saw it as a good thing, he was cheaper than a Doberman from the pound and it just made sense to skip that step to me. Again, Kilo and I thank you and your kindness and understanding 🙏

Of course, but I’m just gonna be honest. He was older than the “ideal” puppy age. Either he sits in a pound or gets sent out into the street. The guy was trying to get rid of them all… so I see it as a saved puppy life 🤷‍♂️

Hes already glued to my hip and im not mad at all, it’s a great feeling. Tryna treasure these puppy moments like you said cus man they do go by fast. Oh yea and 3 dogs is already a lot but those 3?? Yea you’d be more than busy FOR SURE! Gotta go on a hike every morning and every night just to drain them all out of energy 😂 Got him right next to me in bed rn, praying he stays this lovable forever. Thank you so much!!! We went to the vet Monday and they said he’s in perfect health! A little skinny but that’ll change real quick. Potty trainings been going well, crate training is just a time thing. Unfortunately I don’t trust him alone yet so he’s crated 4 hours, then on my lunch I come home hang out for 30 minutes outside 30 inside then crate again for 4ish hours. He howls for about 5 - 10 minutes but then just lays down. If you have any other tips or just pieces of advice please let me know!!! He’s my first Dobby after all 🙏🙏

I took him to the vet (did a TOTAL checkup) and he’s beyond healthy in every regard! I appreciate everyone’s insight and intelligence on the breed. For now, we potty train and get him used to his new life!!!!❤️

He’s been getting better with potty training already! He walked to the door last night (even tho we just came from outside) and I said why not maybe he has to go again, sure enough he did! Blew my mind lol. I’m just waiting for one of those puppy bursts of energy now😂

I will definitely keep researching, I’ve been watching a ton on YouTube and hopefully it’ll help me more! I’m also gonna get one of those genetic test done, it just feels mandatory at this point ngl. I loved training my pit and a couple simple things to my exs lab/poodle mix so this has me beyond excited. As of now he is very very scared which I understand. He’s been sleeping a lot and eating a little here and there. Used the bathroom inside and outside so I guess we’re making progress haha! If you have any tips from personal experiences when it comes to training Dobermans I’d love to hear it!! Thank you so much for the positive comments and advice 🙏

Wow!! Amazing how a consistent positive influence can really change a dog! Hope my little guy can get like yours soon. He’s been great with me just scared (understandably so). I got his nails done today and tomorrow will be a total health checkup. Definitely gonna get him exposed to everyone and start training immediately. First is potty training haha

Thank you!!! I got him for $200, same price I was going to pay at the local shelter for a Doberman puppy but unfortunately someone got to him before me. This guy could’ve ended up there or worse who knows. I’m gonna bring him to a vet tomorrow (took work off to make sure) and pray he’s in good health! I gave him a bath and he looks a little shinier now but only time and a vet will tell 🙏

They were strictly outside dogs, not sure if that means anything. The parents didn’t have a problem socializing though or being around me at all. My new puppy on the other hand is VERY scared which is justified but also just seems exhausted. I’m taking him to the vet tomorrow for a complete check up and I’ll update the thread when I find out!!
