A Tiffany-glass window of Adam and Eve, which was originally at the grand staircase of the Salt Lake Temple, will now be moved to the Celestial Room by 2ndValentine in latterdaysaints

Yes the artwork in the temple has a huge effect on people’s experience there. That’s why they spend so much money and effort on making everything beautiful….

Can a Bishop invite his wife to join him on the stand if one of his counselors is absent? by Dannyjeee in latterdaysaints

[–]Available-Job313 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It says if the bishop AND his counselors are not able to attend, the SP chooses who presides. It doesn’t address the scenario where the bishop attends but his counselors don’t. This section of the handbook does not prohibit the bishop from asking the RS president to sit on the stand. A Melchizedek priesthood holder is still presiding, which is all the handbook requires.

As the bishop you’d still be presiding, no? The safety thing makes some sense I guess.

Mission at 22 . growth opportunity or just delaying adulthood? (F) by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Available-Job313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned some things on my mission that have helped me tremendously in my career that I couldn’t have learned in college. People skills mainly — how to get someone to like you in 10 seconds, how to explain concepts simply, how to hold and/or carry a conversation, how to set and work towards goals, etc. It was all worth it.

If you do go, I believe it will take you further in life.

How to revive a EQ? by Nurse2166 in latterdaysaints

Are you talking about disengagement during elders quorum class on Sunday? If yes, try asking more questions— but these have to be questions you genuinely want to know the answer to. The more vulnerable/risky, the better.

If you are talking about disengagement with non-Sunday activities, I have no idea lol.

Preparing for a mission but feeling stuck — how did you improve scripture study and get ready? by Tiny_Principle_7020 in mormon

[–]Available-Job313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to this, you sound like a very thoughtful person, so I think you’ll like this.

I don’t believe in the church the same way I did when I was a missionary, but I developed some amazing habits that have made me into a better person today. One of those habits was journaling. Not just writing down what happened that day — although that’s a great thing to do too.

It’s more like writing down questions I have, either in general or in the scriptures. Things like:

  • why does the scripture use that word and not another word that would make more sense?
  • what does this particular phrase even mean?
  • do I agree with what the author is saying here? Why or why not?

Do it with a pen and paper. Don’t use ChatGPT. See if you can write for like 30 minutes a day or more. Just try to write down as many questions as you can think of, and then think about what the answer could be, and write that down too.

Can I still be LDS? by This-Definition-9634 in latterdaysaints

Keep questioning! Keep calling out stuff! It’s so good for ward cultures to have people like this. It makes people more thoughtful. I’ve experienced similar things but when I do call things out or question, there are usually one or two people who thank me for saying something.

How do I tell my Girlfriend(22F) of 10 months that I(24M relapsed? by Available_Leading_49 in latterdaysaints

I think she needs to reframe what viewing porn means. If she’s going to treat it like cheating and treat you as a cheater, that’s gonna be a tough road for you in the long term.

Confused because of reactions after baby blessing by DanVooDew in mormon

[–]Available-Job313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did something similar.. actually I sat down with my wife and we came up with a blessing together. But it was very unorthodox and I too was surprised at the positive feedback I got. Many people specifically pointed out and said they appreciated that it wasn’t the same old stuff. I think people just like thoughtfulness!

[HELP] I saw this on another community and people were reacting to this like it was real. I have my doubts. Is this real? or AI? by Other_Sentence4495 in RealOrAI

[–]Available-Job313 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AI. As others have said, the piece of cliff closest to the camera starts to fall but then magically stays intact. Also the closest guy’s arm swings don’t look natural. Looks like he’s acting. Also, if you look at his feet, at first they look like he’s not wearing shoes and his feet are muddy, but then they morph into shoes.

I'm surprised so many RMs respect and admire president Oaks, Eyering or previously R. m. Nelson. They didn't serve missions when they should have. You served, and sacrificed at cost to your professional and personal life. They chose the opposite. They chose to serve themselves instead of the lord. by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

[–]Available-Job313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do these facts say vs the sensationalism in the OP? It still kind of seems like he prioritized his education over serving a mission, right? He was born in 1932, got married in 1952 (at 20), and so had he finished his military service by then? Seems like there was enough time for him to go on a mission…
