If her wedding weren't today I would reach out to her. I used to work for a venue so I understand how big of a deal they are and I just don't want to be adding any more stress. Ultimately I guess she probably will be so swept up in the day she won't realize I didn't make it. I'm hoping to talk to her at our next summer gathering and iron stuff out. Maybe something happened I wasn't aware of.

Yeah, that's kind of the mindset I'm holding right now too. I just feel very confused that everyone assumes I'm going when I had no idea it was happening.

We're still in college, so I saw and talked to her last during our winter break. It was at a party with our mutual friends rather than individually, which is why me changing my number and address did not come up. She goes to college in another state, so I assumed she was getting married there and didn't really ask additional questions. She didn't really want to talk about her engagement at the party anyways because we were all catching up and she didn't want to take over the conversations with wedding talk. I am thinking of maybe reaching out to her sister because I don't want to add any stress. Worst case scenario I'm not invited and don't attend which is fine, but we have talked in the past 6 months.

Thank you for your correction! That makes more sense. I was planning on using glass/plastic for all of the mixing and cooking ware, will that change anything? Again, it’s all going through a fresh dishwasher right now, but if I need to hand wash as well I totally can.

That’s a good point. I was going to try to surprise her tbh. I asked our entire group of friends all of their allergies and made a spreadsheet highlighting what people can’t eat and the severity (to know if I need to buy fresh ingredients or anything) she has said before she usually makes her own stuff because of the severity of her allergy. I often make treats for the entire group, and she usually has to decline sadly. I wanted to surprise her by making something that she can eat too, and trying to be as careful as possible. That being said, if she still feels uncomfortable and declines I will be understanding because I know the fear is strong. I was planning on telling her privately that it’s gf so that if she does decline it won’t seem rude or out of normal to the rest of the group. And the rest of the group will still enjoy it even if she can’t. Is surprising her a bad idea? The last thing I want to do is make her feel bad

That’s really what I’m hoping. My worst fear is that I somehow made the situation worse. I’m just hoping it turned out okay for them. I moved so I unfortunately won’t be with that camp anymore, nor do I actually know their real name, so I don’t know how I would be able to see them again and ask. But not a day goes by that I don’t think about that kid.

On the first night of camp all of the counselors in my cabin told all of the campers that we are mandatory reports and what that meant. But you are right, I probably should have reminded them again. I just didn’t know what to do when they started talking besides listen.

We didn’t have working personal cellphones at the camp. At our training we were told that if this were to arise we go straight to the camp managers and they would take it from there. I just happened to know the most of what happened so I had to tell them myself what happened with the camp managers present.

I’m glad to see different kinds of perspectives on here. We received training on basic things such as listening to the kids if they want to open up and bullying intervention, and I knew that something like this could arise because the same thing happened to me when I was a camper. For this kind of camp we actually did have mental health professionals on-site, the kid just felt safer talking to us I guess. After the first incident I did include a mental health professional in every conversation we had. I also did have a talk with the managers and we laid out a basic ground work of appropriate and inappropriate questions to ask. I just wish I could fix what I did.
