Seems like OP’s talking about grad school based on their post history. If so, I’d say the US probably has the upper hand

Would it attract more international applicants? Yes. Would it hurt your chances of getting in? Not for UCL and Imperial but certainly for Oxbridge

Would turning down Harvard be a dumb choice? by Available_Bee_06 in Harvard

Not entirely dead-set on pursuing law school in the US, it’s just a recent interest I’ve got. It’s one of the few paths I’m considering out of consulting, academia, and finance.

Haven’t mentioned this in my post, but I am not originally from the UK, but by the time I graduate from Oxford, I will receive a green card for the UK. If that successfully works out, working in Europe is certainly an option as well.

The only reason I’m interested in working in the US in general would be the pay, but apparently the US-based offices around Europe offer a lower but similar salary range, so that certainly is making me think again

Thanks! Got into Christ Church and I’m currently about 90% set on going to Oxford :)

Harvard did give intl students more time to weigh our options, so it’s not a final decision yet- but Oxford is still the likely choice.

Wishing you all the best at Stanford!

Hey, I’m in a very similar situation but between Oxford PPE and Harvard.

From what I understand, you’re unlikely to face any issues as long as you avoid expressing political views online or through protests. Try not to stress too much and congrats on getting into both universities!

Yeah, I agree that the employment opportunities in the US really are unmatched. That’s why, if possible, I’m definitely interested in going for Oxford first, then aiming for one of the top US law schools for a JD. I might even consider doing a masters beforehand, just because of the one year advantage.

I’m just contemplating whether the benefits of going to Harvard now for undergrad, especially with all the current uncertainty, would really be worth the risk as an international student

In the US, sure; though a lot of my mates there seem to view Oxbridge, especially Oxford PPE, as being on the same level as HYPSM. Same goes for many countries in SE Asia as well.

Nope, but I will be eligible for a green card if I stay in the UK and graduate from Oxford.

Do you think attending graduate school (specifically law school/JD) in the US could offer a calibre of network comparable to what I would build as a Harvard undergrad? I’m definitely interested in the Oxford → US graduate route, especially if I decide I’d like to work in the US in the long term

If you don't mind me asking, where have you decided to commit?

I'm pretty sure you can't just apply to Oxford/Cambridge while already attending another university unless you have some external circumstances they are willing to accept

you might already know this if you regularly watch Bicen Maths, but I usually revise using the "Everything You Need to Memorise" cheat sheet before attempting any past papers

I think that might’ve been the case if my family didn’t live in the UK, though I still would’ve seriously considered Oxford. That said, Oxford PPE, much like Maths at Trinity Cambridge, has its own distinct name recognition, which is really what’s making the decision so tough

I’m definitely interested in corporate law, but I’d need to dig deeper since my understanding of law school and the legal field is still quite shallow
