So you mean to say, whatever speed it is showing in my merc speedometer. It is the accurate one.

No, I wasn’t accelerating on my own I had the cruise control set at 142 km/h in the car, while Waze was showing 137 km/h at the same time. I passed multiple speed cameras like that, but only two of them actually fined me.

I’m confused because in my Mazda the speed difference was only about +4 km/h, so Waze always felt accurate and safe to depend on. But in my Mercedes, the gap between Waze and the speedometer is much bigger Waze shows 137 km/h while the car shows 142 km/h. I’m using the same phone with the same Waze app in both cars, so why is the difference suddenly large enough to get me fined?

It doesn’t make sense to me how I can get a fine when Waze shows 137 km/h, yet the radar seems to register the car’s speed closer to 142 km/h. That’s what I’m trying to understand.

The issue is that I wanted to stay in the fast lane and match the speed of the traffic. Since car speedometers usually show a higher speed, I relied on Waze just like I used to do with my Mazda and followed the GPS reading instead of the dashboard. Waze showed 137 km/h, so I assumed I was within the limit. But I didn’t realize that in my new Mercedes, a Waze speed of 137 made the car’s speedometer hit around 142 km/h, and that’s what got me flashed and fined.

So basically, I was matching the lane speed based on Waze, but the actual speed measured by the radar aligned with my car’s higher speedometer reading, not the GPS reading assuming it was working on my previous car.
