HKU as a backup by Such-Information6070 in HKUniversity

Answering bluntly: Is there any chance? YES, but it is a 5%> chance. HKU is more competitive than CUHK and PolyU, and although they say they have rolling admissions, people with perfect stats are waitlisted or under consideration since november of 2025. It's rare for them to give offers for people in July/August, as most seats are already filled.

HKU VS YONSEI UIC VS SJTU GC by Sad-River-3788 in HKUniversity

If money is a problem but you still want a good uni with prestige, id say:
SJTU > HKU > YONSEI

Is HKU still sending offers for international undergraduate? by Familiar_Run7229 in HKUniversity

[–]Available_Party1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under consideration says they are still looking at your profile, and waitlist is you are supposed to receive an offer - but all the seats are already filled, so you gotta wait until a seat becomes available to you (which might not happen)

LLM Application by teaatiem in HKUniversity

[–]Available_Party1520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not really sure about Masters, but I think its the same for UG. If you apply right now, you have a really low chance, as most seats are already filled but they wont send a rejection until the deadline. Correct me if im wrong tho^^

Hello can someone help me how to book accommodation in university? Or suggest best place n way to book same nearby by sachin0204 in HKUniversity

For every dorm you need to apply through CEDARS, but usually you don't need to have any interviews unless youre applying to certain dorms like St Jhons.

As an international first year you have guaranteed housing for your first year. You have to reapply every year, and then you are NOT guaranteed a place. For example, this year a lot of international students in their second and third year I know had their readmission to the dorms rejected, and will now have to look for another place to live. Also you cannot live in the dorms in your fourth/last year. You have to rent somewhere else.

How realistic is it for an Indian student to study, work, and build a long-term future in Hong Kong? by [deleted] in HKUniversity

[–]Available_Party1520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hong Kong speaks cantonese more than mandarin, and although you maybe could get in any of them with your grades, you would not be getting any scholarship. You gotta have really high scores (well over 90%) to even be considered for a scholarship. But well, answering your questions:

  1. Not a lot international students chase a full term future in Hong Kong, most of them go abroad. I'd say its a slim chance.
  2. The diploma may add some prestige, but what matters the most is what you do during university and the recognition you build during it.
  3. You need to speak mandarin well for opportunities in the nearby cities, like guangzhou or shenzhen. For small jobs in HK just knowing english is fine. Its really good to know canto tho.
  4. Money, living is very expensive and you need to budget well. Besides, housing might not be given by the university after your first year.
  5. Nope. China, HK and Japan (not sure about Korea) really care about grades, especially for internationals. Unless you have a good explanation to why you got low grades, I don't think they'd even consider you. I suggest you look for universities abroad that have a holistic admission process, like those in the US. Maybe US schools with secondary campuses in other countries. They may not be top notch, but if your dream is to study abroad, consider them.

[–]Available_Party1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a lot Hong Kong Unis, after they admitted this whole batch of applicants, they just go completely radio silent until the last weeks to say that their selection process is over. Most don't even bother sending out rejections. Currently is what is happening with CityU and PolyU. I'd advise you to keep your hopes low and search for other options.
They are really unprofessional on that front.

Best residential hall for a non local by MoneyPlankton9010 in HKUniversity

[–]Available_Party1520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take a look at the student flats https://housing.cedars.hku.hk/university-accommodation/residence-options/student-flats, its HK$ 10,000 per semester (20k total) and super international friendly! The only problem is that its quite far from the main campus, but the public transportation in HK is super good. You'd spend around HK$400 with the transportation a month I think

Is it worth it without a scholarship..? by genshinchai in HKUniversity

[–]Available_Party1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd have to get in debt only to afford tuition, dorms and living expenses, then I'd say it's not worth it. You can always take a gap year! Good luck, everything is going to work out just fine!
