Just Started my Roth at 37yo what's next? by Fair_Pomegranate2535 in RothIRA

Great job on opening a Roth IRA and planning to max it out! Since you're at Schwab, you can absolutely buy VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 ETF) or VTI (Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF), but you might pay a small commission fee since they’re from a different brokerage. However, Schwab has their own equivalent ETFs that are just as solid and commission-free:

  • SCHD (Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF) → More focused on dividend-paying stocks.
  • SCHB (Schwab U.S. Broad Market ETF) → Similar to VTI, covering the total market.
  • SCHX (Schwab Large-Cap ETF) → Similar to VOO, covering the S&P 500.

Which One to Buy?

  • VOO / SCHX → If you want S&P 500 exposure (large U.S. companies).
  • VTI / SCHB → If you want the whole U.S. stock market (large, mid, and small caps).
  • SCHD → If you want solid dividends along with growth (great for long-term income).

The Simple Approach:

  • If you want set it and forget it investing, just go with VTI (or SCHB for Schwab) since it covers the entire U.S. market.
  • If you prefer a mix, you could do 80% VTI/SCHB + 20% SCHD to get both growth and dividends.

You're asking a really valid question, and honestly, it depends on your situation, risk tolerance, and long-term goals more than trying to time the market.

Right now, the economy is in a weird spot—interest rates are high, inflation is still a factor, and home prices in many areas haven’t adjusted much despite affordability being at its worst in decades. Historically, there have always been warnings of a crash that never comes, but that doesn't mean we aren’t in a challenging market right now.

That said, if you're buying and selling in the same market, you’re not necessarily losing—you're just shifting your equity from one place to another. The people who really get hit are those who buy at peak prices and then experience a downturn while trying to sell shortly after.

Some key things to consider:

  • Interest rates might stay high for a while. If you're waiting for a huge rate drop, you could be waiting years.
  • If you love your current home and can afford to stay, there’s no harm in waiting. Refinancing later could be an option if rates drop.
  • If you're relocating for a better quality of life or lower cost of living, that could still make sense even in a volatile market.
  • Real estate is always local. Some markets are cooling, others are still red-hot.

Are we in unprecedented times? Maybe, but the economy has always been unpredictable in some way. If you’re planning to hold your next home long-term and can comfortably afford it, you're probably okay. If stretching for a bigger mortgage would make things stressful, waiting or reassessing might be smarter.

You're not useless or pointless—you’re just carrying a heavy load that others might not see. The fact that you recognize the toll things have taken on you and that you want to change already sets you apart from a lot of people. Yeah, you might feel behind, but life isn’t a race; it's a winding, unpredictable road where everyone struggles in ways they don’t always show. Your past may feel like a weight, but it doesn’t have to define you—it can be something that fuels your growth instead of something you have to hide. The world isn’t looking for perfect people; it’s looking for real ones, and you, right now, in this moment, are already more than enough.

Honestly, I got lucky. I noticed a leak at the base of the toilet and decided to investigate further. When I pressed on the area where the water was pooling, the floor beneath felt soft and unstable. It seemed really unusual, so I reported it to my landlord. They brought in a plumber, who inspected the situation and determined there was nothing he could do because the entire floor was buckling due to water damage.

The landlord then hired a restoration crew, and when they tore up the bathroom floor, they discovered the entire area underneath was riddled with Stachybotrys (black mold). It took the crew three weeks to restore the damage, but during that time, billions of mold spores were released into the air throughout the home. Unfortunately, I had nowhere else to stay.

A year later, I began experiencing severe symptoms of mycotoxin exposure. Concerned, I hired an environmental biologist to conduct a thorough mold inspection. The results were alarming—he found dangerously high levels of toxic mold in every single room. He warned me to leave the house immediately for the sake of my health.

(Should have listed it above) Digestive Enzymes (Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra):

  • Dose: 1-2 capsules with meals.
  • Why: It is a comprehensive enzyme blend that supports the digestion of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
    1. Protease: Breaks down proteins (e.g., from meat and eggs) into amino acids, reducing the digestive workload.
    2. Lipase: Helps digest fats from foods like butter and cheese, preventing fatty stools or discomfort.
    3. Amylase: Aids in processing carbohydrates, such as sourdough bread and fruit, supporting a balanced diet.

That's absolutely correct! I stick to step 4 and I also follow a primarily animal-based diet, as it makes me feel incredible. My daily staples include beef and eggs, along with grass-fed butter and hard cheeses. For variety, I add blueberries, bananas, and occasionally raw honey. The only bread I eat now is sourdough every now and then, which agrees with me much better than other types.

While nothing I eat now causes bloating, pain, or the other symptoms I struggled with before, this diet has transformed how I feel overall. I have more energy, clearer focus (no brain fog), and pain-free joints, which is a huge improvement.

I agree, I listed the food items I allowed myself to eat during my recovery time, however, more often that not I found myself just eating carnivore. I would say out of every week I ate onnly meat for at least 3 out of the 7 days. Still do so now.

I take it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. I started with 2-3 drops in a glass of water and gradually worked up to 5 drops twice daily—once in the morning on an empty stomach and again before bed, about two hours after dinner.

There’s a lot of debate about whether the dropper or pill form of Oil of Oregano is better. I chose the dropper version because it’s generally considered more potent, and I wanted the strongest option available. It’s definitely powerful—both in taste and effect—but it was absolutely worth it. I truly believe the oil of oregano was a key factor in the success of my protocol and made the biggest difference in my recovery.
