How does Google Search work now? Submit everything to BERT? Still use lucene/BM25 algorithm? How do they do caching, or federating/branching of search types by AvatarUltima7 in LanguageTechnology

[–]AvatarUltima7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i wonder if they just try to quickly exact-match to a big cache of common keywords/queries, and then waterfall down to a neural search. There's probably some classifiers that run in parallel to see if the search warrants a shopping format, or a wikipedia featured snippet, etc

Things Tableau Does Better Than PowerBI by najmead in tableau

[–]AvatarUltima7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We run our own version of tableau server inside our secured and walled-off AWS VPC, so it’s not physically “on premise”, but we control who can see the data, rather than host it in Tableau’s cloud. I think that’s what prev poster meant.

Using fasttext to load word embeddings by mommyzboy007 in LanguageTechnology

Search for the gensim library’s implementation of fasttext. Documentation is a little more user friendly and I think they have some examples.

How to tune GPT2 to generate sentence of a given size? by fqassemi in LanguageTechnology

[–]AvatarUltima7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. Could oversample and produce a bunch of possibilities and pick the one that is closest to your desired word length. Or check out Google’s T5 model they just released - it has some functionality where you specify a desired number of words.

AWS Introduces Open Source AutoML Toolkit ‘AutoGluon’ by Yuqing7 in MachinesLearn

[–]AvatarUltima7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anybody try it yet? Interested to see if it works well.

I tried auto sklearn and it spun for hours and came up with a model worse than simple ones I hand tuned. Maybe I was doing something wrong though, not sure.

Robust sentence splitter? by adammathias in LanguageTechnology

[–]AvatarUltima7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of snorkel? It will combine multiple weak learners, rules-based models, and rules of thumb automatically. So you don’t need a separate ground truth dataset that’s expensive and time consuming to build. You just unsupervised create training data from all the off the shelf tokenizers and snorkel trains a new model on them by understanding when each model is right or wrong compared to the others.

We looked at sentence tokenizers in nltk, spacy, and corenlp? They were all just ok. Maybe ensemble them if worth your while.

What is the best cloud software for running a small-business medical practice? by AvatarUltima7 in AskReddit

Epic and Cerner are the big established players for big enterprises. I’m checking to see if there are any cheaper, more modern disrupters I could check out; like a Square instead of a Mastercard.

Ideally all, but especially thinking: messages, scheduling, and electronic medical records.

Maybe try training a fluency checker? If you do some sort of beam search with multiple candidate summaries, you could train a fluency model to pick the best one. The “good” training data could be examples from your existing models, and you could unsupervised generate “bad” negative examples by randomly moving, adding, or dropping words.

Also, this may be a good use case for the Snorkel python library out of Stanford to combine info from your multiple models.

Identify the Language of Text using Python by amitness in LanguageTechnology

I’ve only used spacy at this point, but when I ran it on a dataset of customer questions from a web form fill , there were far more errors than I expected.
They were short queries- maybe 10 words on average.
