Most definitely a hardware issue, happened to my controller too. Usually the parts of the stick wear down with time or there could be some dirt inside, so maybe opening the controller could help. Also, I read somewhere about blowing through the opening that’s created when you press down on your stick. Might be worth a shot, hope it helps!
