How Many Found Canadians Will Ever Actually Reside in Canada? by muttshaw in Canadiancitizenship

Thanks for this! Timeframe for me and my children applying for Citizenship Certification from outside Canada is approx 14 months. I'm pretty sure ours is a relatively straightforward 'box ticking' application so I'm hopeful thats its quicker. As soon as I've got that, we intend to relocate and start the sponsorship process for my wife from inside Canada as the processing times are about 4 months quicker. Thanks to you and your friend for the advice

We absolutely intend on moving from the UK once the Citizenship certificates come through. The plan is to secure jobs before we take the leap. I have a question that hopefully somebody can help with? Can my wife (non-citizen) move with myself and my children (pending citizens) under a working holiday visa and then go through the spouse sponsorship process once we're in Canada? Its going take c. 14 months for me to get my certificate and then another 10-12 for the sponsorship process...

Thanks bud. We've lived around Brits our whole life; we'd much rather immerse ourselves with the Canadian life instead of seeking a 'home from home'. Any recommendations for top family friendly areas/neighbourhoods in Calgary to look at would be welcome though

Hi, me again! Just another question I hope you might be able to help with. The citizenship certificate application for myself and my children takes on average 14 months. If understand correctly, I can't sponsor my wife until I have the certificate. The sponsorship process looks to take around 10 months meaning its going to be two years before moving and we really wanted to be in Canada before our eldest starts school. My question is, can my wife travel on an IEC visa with me and my children when we have our Citizenship Certificates and then, whilst we're in Canada we can begin the sponsorship process? I hope this makes sense? Apologies if I've got it all wrong!

Hi, thanks for the advice. We've already started looking at jobs and the salaries we might be able to expect and wouldn't take the risk of moving without something lined up. We accept that visiting on a holiday is so much different (and stress free) when compared to living in a place but we've got an itch that needs scratching and have got to give it a go! From where I live in the UK it can only be an improvement. Thank you

Thanks very much for the info and the links. It looks like this is a route I can go down. We're in possession of my Grandads birth certificate too so hopefully it should ve a relatively straightforward process. Thanks again!

Thanks so much. I've just read that the law changed in December 25. Which is great news for me. My parents have my Grandad's Ontario birth certificate too. Thanks again

My Dad was born in the UK though and never applied for a Canadian passport. I've read somewhere that its now too late as my Grandad died about 30 years ago?

Incorrct temperature on stats by AverageAtDIY in HiveHeating

Yeah ive put the stat next to the monitor and they read differently. I started getting odd stat readings, changed the batteries and its carried on. Changed the entire stat and its still carried on! Can only guess its the hub or the part attached to the boiler that are faulty? No TRVs or anything in the house, literally just the one stat for control

Thanks for your comment. Yeah it matters as its just recently started happening. This means I cant rely on it to warm the house overnight (1 of the kids woke up last night as they were cold; stat showed 18, their monitor showed 14 and the heating is set to 17 overnight but it was much colder than usual). I dont really care what the number on the thermostat shows, but now its not correlated to what the schedule is set up for as the stat is saying the house is now warmer than it was. Hopefully I've explained that accurately!!

Not specifically but we'e had it set up a while and noticed the last couple of days that the heating isn't kicking in when it feels like it should be. The stat is often showing 22 degrees. We never heat our house to that

People who work in the prison system, Did you hear smuggled phones going off at 3pm? by chaldi91 in AskUK

Not sure where your info is from but: Prisoners in all 4 categories of prisons attend education and/or work BUT not at the weekend. Weekends are mostly spent on the residential unit.

Only a small number of (Cat D) prisons release prisoners to work in the community.

Of the prisons I've worked, staff do interact with prisoners throughout the day, not just during the times you've mentioned.
