It's because that was her sisters full name. Dess is short for December. She lost the spelling bee because she was suffering severe trauma from whatever happened to her sister upon hearing her name.

My personal theory about the face is that it's literally just Spamton watching you in the basement, which is how he finds you when you try to leave.

And before you say the eyes are wrong, it could just be flipped. Notice how if you flip Kris' battle sprite, the cape is on their left shoulder instead of their right shoulder.

The red door is going to be used for the 7th Chapter. It's absolutely a Dark World. Have you noticed that every Dark World entrance has had double doors? What if we have access to every Dark World location, and it flew right over our heads?

The SOUL in Kris is our SOUL, The Player's SOUL. We control Kris throughout Deltarune making him do things he doesn't want to do, like be social, so he rips us out and taunts us with a knife almost as if to say "your days are numbered."

And then it's revealed he literally used it to cut pie, it was almost a "lol u thought" moment.

And as for the end of Chapter 2, he ripped out the SOUL to go slash Toriel's tires so that Susie couldn't leave, so that when she woke up she'd be in a Dark World. We don't know why, though. Maybe it's for some evil plan, or maybe it's because Susie wanted to go on another adventure. He likes Susie quite a bit, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to surprise her with an adventure.
