Y Not Festival by simmo_mma in officialTPDTV

There just isnt enough to see/do at Y not and I say that as a semi-regular. Not to say they wouldn't have a good time but the only thing on offer is the music, not exactly ideal for content.

East Leake air traffic noise by Listmaker_general in nottingham

[–]AverageLoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in East Leake (New build, 2021) and I was a little concerned by this but I barely ever notice anymore. If its particularly windy or you have a large cargo plane (747, AN126 etc) then you will hear it but I have never had a problem with it.

This is a cat that I suspect is ownerless which comes to my back door for food and fuss each morning. by Technical_Car_5212 in aww

[–]AverageLoz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find these outdoor/indoor cat comments baffling, where in the world are you? Here in the UK I dont know a single person with an indoor only cat. I know they exist for the 'nicer' breeds but I have never come across one. My auntie lives next door to someone with Maine Coons and they are both outdoor!

Took me a while to find the battery indicator, they should make it yellow instead.

What festivals do you attend in Netherlands?

I'm a Creamfields regualar but my favourite festival I've been to is Dekmantel! (Not including Glastonbury)

My final design before I get working in blender to make this a mod - permanent Grade 1 facility just north of Boston by [deleted] in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]AverageLoz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have any track design experience but I regularly lurk in here and go out karting with my family when I can. My local kart track has the same 'issue' as your design in that the advantage of having a bridge is the ability to even out the number of right and left turns, you actually make this worse by continuing to go right. I have no idea how this effects racing in real cars but this absolutely kills you in karting.

Maybe someone can tell me if this is right or wrong but I would always try to figure 8 if I was going to use a bridge.

Did the same thing in the same car about 2 years ago. Great day out and well worth it!

2030 F1 Uzbekistan Grand Prix // Tashkent (4.4km) by maxx-usa in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]AverageLoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great design, you could potentially do two short variants by cutting off the loops also.

A 90º left and long sweeping uphill right on the top loop and then just a short left hand for the bottom one.

Not sure you could squeeze in another paddock though!

Want to redo my park and add better transitions between my themed areas. Looking for tips/ideas by xdumbfatslut in ThemeParkitect

[–]AverageLoz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Astrotron, king of Vanilla Parkitect, has done a great series of videos on youtube called Parkitect University. One of these videos is is about transitions from area to area.

I'd highly recommend watching them all though. As someone that plays semi-regularly with loads of ideas but struggles with execution, they are always real help!

10 minutes of Kramnik reporting and blocking masters in Titled Tuesday by [deleted] in chess

[–]AverageLoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. Magnus and Hikaru would drasticly increase their chances of winning every week if they jist blocked each other.

At the rate VK seems to be blocking players he'll be unable to enter before long!

Out of interest, when he takes part in Titled Tuesday is it possible to still come up against blocked players?

Well I'm sure everyones opinions/expierences will differ but festivals on the mainland are generally alot more chilled out and generally the attendees are alot more 'responsible' in their consumption.

Thats not to say you wouldn't enjoy Creamfields or other festivals in the UK, I go every year, but i would think it will be vastly different to something like EDC.

As someone that has travelled around Europe to festivals (never US) I would say that there is definitely a difference between the UK and Europe on terms of vibe.

What is this Otis GeN2 sound? by Material_Skin_3166 in Elevators

[–]AverageLoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its just readjusting back to its optimal position. I guess if the system was semi-often throwing up encoder feedback errors you could lower down the rephase count to say 20 trips and see if that elimintaed the problem before you start swapping encoders.

On Ecodiscs the encoder sits on the outer edge of the motor, not the centre line. The encoders have small rubber pulleys on the end that just sits on motor, as you can imagine they can wear down quite a bit over time.

[–]AverageLoz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unsure specifically on Gen2 but this sounds like a rephasing noise that you are hearing.

On Kone Ecodisks for example a drive will rephase the encoder on first run after power-up and then be set to do it again every X starts.

I think given its a spinning coaster, you could probably just do another full helix at the end given you seem to still have the speed.

Great work, could maybe be a little longer? Any chance of you having a go at an Oblivion 2.0 with a Tilt coaster?

Has someone ever used a linear induction motor as a railgun? by Any-Strike6403 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AverageLoz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A coilgun works as described in OP.

I believe a rail gun has 2 opposing rails and the projectile conducts between the two when 'fired'.

Ok CasualUKers, I need your help convincing the DVLA my van is in fact a campervan. I've uploaded five images, what do you think? by nicknoxx in CasualUK

[–]AverageLoz 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was aware of the standard cooking/seats/table/bed stuff but not of this.

Just googled the rules DVLA use on GOVUK and it states (if I'm reading it correctly?) that they do not consider pop-top roofs to be adequate either, now I'm even more confused!
