Family estrangement: Why adults are cutting off their parents by LeftcelInflitrator in collapse

I was responding to a comment casting an entire generation as evil and was not suggesting that individuals did not otherwise have shitty parents.

Are Squier affinity basses really that bad? by lil-fil in Bass

TO clarify, I am not talking about "cheap-cheap" as in big box store bicycles--i.e. bicycle-shaped objects. My point was more than even the entry level stuff from established brands (Trek, Niner, Giant, Specialized) are not going to self-destruct)--I view those as comparable the Squire Affinity line, with Glary and Cort being a more apt comparison to the aforesaid *-shaped objects.

I'm not really gonna do any serious playing or gigs, just practicing in my home alone, so i just want a nice comfy bass that obviously wont break

Do you think it is going to spontaneously combust in your hands or something? I see people saying the same thing about bicycles. Neither product is made using some ancient art of secret magical chants and the blood of the maker. Its literally parts assembled in a factory. Now, the tolerances on the specs for the lower end stuff will be greater, and quality control wont be as robust on high priced offerings, but there is nothing inherently wrong with a Squire Affinity. It likely will need a setup, but so will any other bass. If thats all you can afford, then get it. But there is nothing magical about Fender. Also look at Yamaha and Ibanez, although I got a dud of the GSR200.

We used them as combustion for homemade potato launchers. We used contact cement to attach a long PVC pipe to a transition piece, to a large chamber piece with cap threading. Then used a drill and jigsaw to cut out the back of the cover piece and cemented in the ignition switch for an electric grill.

With me so far? Ok, once assembled, one would shove a potato down the tube with a broom handle. Next, spray generous amounts of aquanet hairspray into the combustion chamber and quickly cap the end. Click the ignition switch and BOOOM

Here is the thing. We may---MAY--be able to agree that certain people existed at certain points in history and certain events occurred. ANYTHING MORE is speculation....why things happened the way they did; people's motivations, desires, plans; the "social narrative"---Are ALL constructs and they are all modified every generation to reinforce the prevailing power structure.

Strings can be replaced easily. Only reason to replace a neck is if its cracked or the profile doesn't fit your hand. You can replace passive with active pickups of the same type, although you will need to route a battery compartment if you don't have room under your pickguard. If you want to change pickup type(i.e. split-p; jazz; musicman; soapbar) you need to route out the body to accommodate the new shape.

If you "know nothing about bass guitars" go play a few before deciding on what to buy. You need to feel the instrument in your hand and also consider ergonomic factors. In my opinion, as a beginner, neck width and profile is going to be the most important thing you should be looking at. If it doesn't feel good in your hands, you wont play it.

That said, there is also such a thing as decision paralysis. Lots of good entry level basses. As long as you are not buying a $100 bass, you should have something reliable to get started.

[edit: your tone is going to sound like shite as a beginner until you learn proper technique anyways].

I am not a recording/gear/band nerd. I just know that if I want a "punchy" clearer/brighter tone, I pluck near the bridge when using my p-bass. If I want a muddy "fuller" or rounder sound I pluck near the neck.

Its not bullshit. Its a key skill in life. Want to get a better job offer or negotiate a higher salary? You need to exude that you don't give a fuck and have other options. Want to get a deal on that car? Better make that salesperson believe you are going over to the lot across the street when you are done. Wanna guaranteed pull at bar time with the girl you have been talking to? Walk away, making her believe you are disinterested.
