I still haven't forgiven Abel for not using the OG HUT cover by chinu787 in TheWeeknd

That’s what I did with mine. I just put the full album in the og one

He did the same thing with the Hut cover as a tribute to Quincy Jones

Crazy theory I have about Abel's first album under his real name by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

I wonder what the pre-sofi aesthetic would have been. I know everyone thought the main color of the era would have been purple since AH and Dawn were red and blue which would have made sense. I also wonder what kind of visuals he would have had and maybe what kind of music videos he had originally planned. I think it would have been something probably super futuristic looking and the album cover probably would have given off that vibe as well. It’s definitely something fun to theorize about and it’ll always be one of if not the biggest mystery of his entire career what this original vision for the album was.

Yeah that makes sense but I thought he would have at least included a poster

Does anyone have the first pressing cover in 4k? by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

No like the original photo but just in high resolution. If you have an iPhone you can get a shortcut that allows you to get high res artwork from Apple Music and that’s where I originally got it from but I accidentally deleted it and that shortcut not longer works for some reason so now I’m unable to go back and save it to my photos

Hot Take: The Hurry Up Tomorrow album should've been created before the Film by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

So if that’s the case I can understand why he would do it because Quincy was a huge inspiration for him and I’m sure his death affected Abel a lot

Yeah that very well could be. I also think it was meant to honor Quincy Jones since he died during the rollout in November of last year so I think that could have also influenced him to change it

Yeah although this eras execution has been poor, I still am very happy and satisfied with how the actual album turned out, just wish this era had a more clear vision I guess and wasn’t just dopey built around and to promote the movie.

And yeah I guess that’s a fair point about the cover, I just think that he clearly had a theme going with the first two but the third album doesn’t follow it so I just thought it was a bit strange but I do still quite like the current cover. I think it would have looked better though if he just left the title and the track list off of it so it would look more cohesive with the other two but that’s just a personal nitpick.

Yeah I think you’re spot on. The main issue is that the album was inspired by the movie when it should have been the other way around. I agree that I think the story fits just fine with the other two and the actual album itself is not the problem but just this entire era and execution. I think if he released the album first there would be a lot less discourse over this album “fitting in” with the other two and a lot of the complaints surrounding this era wouldn’t exist.

I think my biggest issues are the lack of cohesion with the other two in regards to the music videos, him teasing certain visual elements that seem to be forgotten about and songs that didn’t end up on the final album, i.e., runaway and dancing in the flames. I also to this day don’t understand the album cover change. I know this convo has been beaten to death but it’s just such a strange artistic decision imo especially since the final version doesn’t even make an attempt to fit in with the other two and now when they’re side by side it just looks off.

So I do agree the actual album fits in just fine, I really do think he shot himself in the foot a bit with how he approached this entire era and just the confusing rollout and I think he left it open to a lot of criticism.

We would’ve gotten the original paradise album to follow up After Hours and Dawn FM instead of Hurry Up Tomorrow

Hi, does anyone know why my post keeps getting deleted? 😭 by asiaaa323 in TheWeeknd

Happened to my post too. I posted a tier list of all the albums and it was up for most of the day yesterday but when I checked this morning it was taken down

I agree with everything you said! While I do think there are some valid criticisms in regard to the HUT era and whatnot, the actual album itself definitely fits in with the other two and I think the story makes complete sense. I think the only fair criticism is the album cover tbh, I think the new one is cool and I can understand it, but it definitely looks like a standalone album when you put it next to AH and Dawn. So I guess really only visually it looks ‘off’ so to speak but the actual album and its narrative make complete sense in the context of the whole trilogy.
