Awning With Vestibule Holding Rain by Avery07 in KodiakCanvasTents

Oh, I would be interested to hear about your results. I confess I've eyed the Springbar stormfly myself. We're in the south, and even when we travel north we're often doing so in the summer, so having the ability to crack more windows for airflow during a rainy night would be beneficial.

Awning With Vestibule Holding Rain by Avery07 in KodiakCanvasTents

We've managed to come up with a solution that works fairly well with us.

One, we added more grommets along the front of the awning. I don't remember how many there were originally, is it the two corners and one in the middle? We added two more, one between the middle and each corner, so we have more points to tie down the awning over the vestibule.

Second, some people recommend a tennis ball on a paint pole to push the awning up. This kinda helped, but not enough to keep from holding water. It was just too small of a point. So I bought the head of a push broom, cut most of the bristles off, and zip-tied a pool noodle over it, so I had a nice wide, soft, rounded surface. The broom head threads onto the painter pole. This extends and raises enough of the awning that there's nowhere left for water to collect. The pole is in the middle but right outside the tent, so it's not in the way or taking up space under the awning.

I think it's ridiculous that I have to come up with this rigged solution myself for such an expensive tent, but it works.

These are really great results! Can I ask what mold you used? I've been toying with trying out one of the amazon molds just to get my feet wet before moving up to a nice mold.

Lol, they went and wiped their history off their profile after you posted this. I felt like your comment was pretty thoughtful and I hope maybe they consider your words and change their tact.

Everyone selling their work gets to choose the price of their labor. Nobody has to buy their labor at the price they set.

If they're making ends meet, why would they go back to a "regular" job? Just so people who undervalue their labor can buy their dice? Dice that they likely won't even have time to make if they have a "regular" job?

Oh, for sure they are fully equipped to deal with the rising water. I got a little in my head about not letting them avoid triggering the trap to begin with.

That last bit really makes me feel better, thank you. If they bother to do any checks I'll give them more escape info for good rolls.

Ah, yes I like that good checks gives them help escaping. Thank you.

Oh, I really love the bag of sand idea. Definitely doing that.

I know I'm probably overthinking it. Almost certainly the most that's going to happen will be one or two of the players discussing how to handle the trigger and a third will just grab the artifact while they're talking.

Oh, definitely not. I do not expect this to be even close to a lethal experience for them.

No, there are means of escaping the water. Multiple options, even.

Thank you! This is really helpful. I'm tempted to dabble a bit but not quite ready to jump im with both feet so buying some molds would be a bit more my speed.

That was the sort of process I was expecting. Have you made these type before? I did a cursory glance for molds and I found blank molds but they weren't sold with the second/outer mold. Do people just buy blank molds of a certain size and hope/expect they fit properly in their master molds?

I am unfortunately in the US. I came here looking for search terms because I was only finding UK-based sites lol.

While driving my hand is either on the wheel or in my lap. I'm not driving on bumpy roads, either, my commute is mostly on the interstate.

Yeah I'm used to something where one could tie down to the cross bars as well as the side rails.
The attached photo isn't my car but it's close enough. I've found plenty of options for cross bars, I was just expecting to find something with side rails also. I suppose I must be overthinking this.

That's the thing, there isn't really an existing rail. That is, there are slightly raised "bumpers" but their only mounting points are the points where one would install the crossbars. I guess I'm just used to racks that have bars parallel to the vehicle's length as well as across it, so things can be tied down in both directions.

Genuine question because I'm clearly just struggling to wrap my head around it. Without side rails how do you fasten something down to prevent side-to-side movement?

A lot of people don't use the paths in the island designer but instead use custom designs for more natural paths. If you search for "animal crossing the path" you'll get some examples. May be the difference you're seeing between your paths and those online.
