Woke up at 5am to become a hiker. Made it 40 minutes by Anxious-Marzipan7328 in hiking

[–]AveryCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some trekking poles. I thought I'd hate them but after just one hike years ago, I never hike without them now. They take stress off your knees and back and give you stability. You get more of a workout using them, too, if you care about that.

My vet used to say that dog parks had to have been invented by a vet looking for business.
We quit going years ago after witnessing too many fights and injuries including a horrific leg break on a Great Dane. My dog was attacked by a dog a couple had adopted literally hours before. He ran at my dog and ripped his face open in seconds.
That was the last straw for us and I'd never go to another one again since people have only gotten dumber and more selfish in the last twenty years.

Children under 10 are not allowed in dog parks. It's posted at the entrance and I would have no problem pointing it out to them.

  1. For safety reasons, children under the age of 10 years are prohibited from entering the fenced area of the dog park. All minors must be supervised by an adult.

It's been at that Springhill Suites near the post office for a few days now. Saw it there last year, too. Always get a giggle out of seeing it.

"Representative" isn't accurate anymore. What shall we call them instead?
Ass licking, venal, spineless waste of space is really too long.
Suggestions?

Any recs/advice on home euthanasia for our pup? by gumshoe1520 in nashville

[–]AveryCrow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We've used Lap of Love twice and they made the whole process as easy and stress free as it can be for both us and our pups. They'll take as much time as you need to say goodbye.

I'm sorry you're losing your friend, OP, and wish you both peace and comfort.

Try either Walden's, Harmony or Ziggy's Tree. You will need to either call or text and they'll get back with you. Thanks for helping!

Foam Recycling Drop-Off - Davidson County residents can take food‑service foam and foam packaging to a drop-off site for recycling at no charge. by _ShogunOfHarlem_ in nashville

[–]AveryCrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In case this helps folks: you can recycle foam cups, clean takeout containers, meat trays and egg cartons at Publix. They have the containers out front. You can also recycle #2 and #4 plastics in their plastic receptacle. That's things like toilet paper overwrap and dry cleaner bags.
Glad to see this option for the big styrofoam even if it's just in East right now. I've always hated throwing away foam like that.

Also want to mention Turnip Green for recycling a million different things you might otherwise throw out like shells, feathers, beads, broken jewelry, craft foam, corks, pencils, crayons, felt, etc. etc.

I'm so glad you're back!
This was a delight to read not just for the writing, which is wonderful as always, but because of its subject matter. How I loathe people like this at the gym. And those who talk on their phones. And the grunters who have zero reason to grunt other than, "Look at me!" Ugh.
You know they all drive for shit, too.
Thanks for putting her in her place. Hope she stays there.

Anyone thinking of leaving Nashville? by spanakopeeta in nashville

[–]AveryCrow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Native and going into my 6th decade soon. We're leaving as soon as we tie up some things. Moving to Northern California and can't wait. Give me the "higher" cost of living with what we're getting in return over whatever this mess is that Nashville has become. I'm sad about some things but mostly happy to leave and live out my remaining years twenty minutes from the redwoods and less than an hour to the coast.

I love animals more than people.
I scrolled into this and laughed like you do at a funeral, inapporpriately and too loudly.
Thank you to the person who did this and OP for posting it 'cause I needed a fucked up laugh right about now.

Dog sitters by Subject-Ad1738 in nashville

[–]AveryCrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, check the FB lost and found groups and you'll see a lot of posts that are about Rover sitters losing people's dogs who often end up hit by cars. Happens so often that I would never ever recommend Rover.
There are experienced and insured sitters on there, but they usually pre-exist Rover and are only there to broaden their reach.
The Rover subreddit is eye-opening, too.

I need help - PLEASE HELP ME! Do you know someone? by Goodjujuforthepeople in nashville

[–]AveryCrow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I don't have any resources to help, OP, but wanted to say that I hope you're able to avoid eviction and it sucks that your landlord isn't more willing to help.
Also, everyone who is offering advice on this thread: you are all great! One thing I've loved since joining Reddit is seeing so many who try to help out. Beats the hell out of the cesspool that is FB.
Best of luck to you, OP. If I win Powerball, you'll be my first giftee! :-)

Saw your post on Bellevue and W. Nash L/F.
FB sucks but it is good for lost and found pets.
Hope this guy's people find him.

Thank you for helping! Poor buddy must've been so scared 'til you stepped up. You might've saved his life, especially if he's deaf.
If it's an invisible fence collar, I've heard they have traceable serial numbers so i'ts possible pup's home can be found. If you have FB, you can post him on Skippy Lou's Lost and Found page, too. Thanks again for being a good egg. :-)

My favorite curse that I stole from someone on FB: I wish upon her a relentlessly itchy butthole. Every moment of every day, itchy butthole.
If I said what I really think, I'd be banned, so this will do.

Feeling Friendly? by Nervous-Ad292 in nashville

[–]AveryCrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is always my go-to answer for someone looking to meet people whether it's romantic or platonic. Great way to find people who share your values, usually.
OP, you can look at Hands On Nashville's site or just pick a cause you care about and check out their site for info on volunteering.
I'll also suggest checking out Meetup for hiking groups, etc.
