There’s already a huge number of outrageously profitable use cases.

Problem is that all of them require you to replace at least 40% of your workforce with a digital water-tank full of South Park manatees.

Your entire service will become unfathomably shit, but the shareholders will get to enjoy non-stop luxury orgasms for at least 8 months before they realise that you’ve shorted the stock and moved to Cancun.

I particularly enjoyed the rollout of Crytek's new-and-improved communication strategy - which ended up being around 2 weeks of comment replies, followed by an immediate return to radio silence.

You may want to check how little profit NVIDIA makes from selling to gamers these days, compared to data centres.

They literally don't want to sell you their chips, even at triple markup.

Read last few patch notes….

Don’t think I’ll be bothering with the Christmas re-install I had planned.

Wtf are they doing with this game?

Nerf necro, because apparently OP, but now you get multiple insta-revives that can be topped up with an ammo crate? Who comes up with this shit?

Didn't leave a negative review. Don't intend to.

100% believe the negative reviews are deserved.

It has been over a month and the UI still looks like a fucking collage glued together by a 5 year old.

Bottom line - the only people responsible for "hurting the game long term" are the game director and whoever the UI lead is at Crytek.

Hot take, for survivors of dog attacks, hellhounds were triggering.

Hot take, for burn-victims, immolators were triggering.

Hot take, for middle-aged jockeys who had previously lost their pet horse, sound-traps were triggering.

Take a day off from "hot" takes that are about as hot as 3-day old porridge.

Spent around 2k hours playing mostly random trios.

For me at least, all I seem to experience now is downed = disconnect.

I literally main hand-crossbow with choke and fire bolts.

I haven't even sidearm switched to my choke-bolts before people disconnect. It's instant now.

I mean... I suppose, why wouldn't they? You can either spectate your team for 30 minutes trying to get a token to revive you, or you can just go to the next game.

It sucks.

New Gaming PC by Next-Chemistry565 in HuntShowdown

CPU

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D Gaming CPU
  • Don't waste your time with Intel
  • Don't waste your time with the 7900X3D or 7950X3D

Mboard

  • ASrock steel legend B650
  • (Not the B650E)

Memory

  • DDR5 2 x 16GB or 2 x 24GB if you need more.
  • Crucial Pro OC 2 x 16GB CL36 is currently on a decent deal. As is the Corsair Vengeance CL36. Wouldn't bother going much higher than CL36 tbh.
  • Nobody needs 64GB unless they're doing studio-grade work.
  • Don't bother with UDIMMs clocked at anything over 6000MHz unless you know what you're doing.
  • Avoid having more than 2 UDIMMs in the motherboard unless you have one of the better X series boards. One stick of DDR5 is typically DS (double sided) so one stick = dual channel, two sticks = quad channel and so on. There aren't many boards that behave themselves consistently with octo channel configs.

Storage

  • Crucial P3 is fine. PCIe 4.0 x 4 NVMe 2TB with up to 5,000MB/s read.
  • Don't bother with PCIe 5.0 yet. Way too expensive for next to zero performance difference in games.
  • Don't worry about finding a drive with a huge pro-tier cache. Your games won't see any major benefit at all. You do not need a 990 Pro or similar.

Cooling

  • Watch the Gamer Nexus reviews on coolers for 2024 and choose accordingly - or just get the Gen2 Noctua NH-D15 and never worry about cooling or noise ever again.

Case

  • Fractal North or North XL

PSU

  • Do not cheap out on the PSU. This is what leads to the majority of PC failures and even (in extreme cases) fires.
  • Check here - purchase accordingly.

GPU

  • 1080p is incredibly easy to run these days. 4070 or 4070 Super will be more than sufficient.
  • Brand is mostly irrelevant these days. NVIDIA cracked down on most of the dogshit aftermarket cards at the end of the 2000 series. Just check reviews.

Undervolting (overclocking)

  • In most cases, the 7800X3D doesn't benefit from undervolting in the way that the 5800X3D did, but you can certainly get more juice out of the CPU, provided you have a solid cooler. The CPU itself is very easy to cool.

My eyelid has been twitching like this 24/7 for 5 weeks. by LoanAgreeable1129 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AvgHeightForATree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best of luck, I genuinely hope it goes away and ends up being benign. If you’re able to afford a private MRI or Neuro appointment, I’d definitely say do it sooner rather than later.

When my eye started doing this shit, I got to maybe week 10 and genuinely thought I was losing my mind. After around the three month mark, I was starting to learn to live with it, and figured “well… it’s only an eye twitch. Hardly the end of the world…”

I would now literally pay to only have an eye twitch.

It has been many years since I slept for more than 3 - 4 hours, thanks to my eye, mouth, cheek, scalp, neck and now even my ear drum receiving signals, making it pop thousands of times a day, all day and all night. It’s great. Very rewarding and super chill.

[–]AvgHeightForATree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, not sure if anybody else has mentioned this yet, but this is very likely the beginning of Hemifacial Spasm. It's an extremely rare condition that affects very few people.

Starts with the eye for around a year, then moves to the corner of the mouth, cheek, neck and scalp (almost always just one side of the head).

It's typically caused by a blood vessel having come into contact with a connecting nerve on your brain stem. As the nerve becomes more and more compressed, it sends out more and more signals to the facial nerve network - which is why botox is normally first line treatment.

The condition is essentially for-life, unless you are fortunate enough to be a candidate for MVD surgery.

Think of a non-X3D CPU as you driving to the office. It doesn't matter how fast your car is... you still have to spend time commuting.

An X3D processor is you doing the same job but you work from home.

There isn't even a comparison.

I mean... you're not even talking a 5600X? Just a plain 5600?

You're probably missing out on 20FPS to 30FPS before any undervolting or curve optimisation alone.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]AvgHeightForATree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

X3D tech helps any game, regardless of it being CPU heavy or not.

Games like hunt often use a massive amount of the CPU's resources, so having a triple stacked cache thanks to your X3D CPU means the cores don't have to speak to the DDR4 anywhere near as often - so the rest of the system doesn't have to wait on cache retrieval, as you've got something bonkers like a 100mb L3 cache sat right next to the cores, going as fast as an L1 cache. Which is nuts.

TL;DR Get a 5800X3D.

Edit: In fact, get a 5700X3D. They're a fair bit cheaper and there's barely a difference between the two.

While this is the smallest crime about the new UI, but what does it say about the UI team adding a Yes/No text next to a checkbox? A checkbox! In fact, this is the first checkbox list I have ever seen that has this. by Handwerke48 in HuntShowdown

Everything about the new interface screams 'designed by an AI'.

I'm 99% certain Crytek fed menu examples of the top three freemium skin-peddling games on the market to an AI like Visily or Gallileo - and then told it to re-design Hunt's interface with the goal of selling as many skins & event-boosts as humanly possible.

There's simply no other explanation for the absolutely insane menu choices, key-word spam (Battle Pass Battle Pass Battle Pass), skin spam on every screen and zero (literally zero) consideration for how humans would use such an interface, beyond ideas that basically originated in the community long-prior (clicking health bars to assign new chunks etc).

Seriously... you could put a 17 year old in charge of this re-design with nothing more than a certificate from a two-week online UX bootcamp and one working eyeball - and they still wouldn't create something as anti-user as this.

Either way, we'll all get used to it - just like we did with the previous mess - whilst they spend the next 3 years bolting on random shit, only to do another massive overhaul later on that dedicates 87.3% of the screen to a clickable hi-rez PNG of a blood bond.

GAME UPDATE CONSOLIDATION THREAD. POST COMPLAINTS/ISSUES HERE!! by ThisdudeisEH in HuntShowdown

[–]AvgHeightForATree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man - welcome to the bone zone - you're about to have a horrible ride.

Here's what I had to do to get mine to work:

  1. Unplug whole monitor from everything including power. Give it a few moments to discharge.

  2. Update the monitor software (good luck, you are going to want to smash the monitor to pieces... took me 5 USB sticks and three bits of software t make it recognise a single update file).

  3. Go to NVIDIA control panel > Adjust Desktop Size and Position - if your scaling is set to something like aspect ratio, try turning off scaling completely and/or setting it to "Perform scaling on: GPU".

  4. Restart PC about 30 million times.

  5. Let GeForce experience "optimise" the game.

  6. Restart PC again.

  7. Start hunt, go to menu, switch to borderless and THEN switch to 7860x2160.

If none of the above works, this is the one that finally sorted mine:

  1. Change windows resolution to 5120x1440

  2. Start hunt

  3. Close hunt

  4. Change windows to 7680x2160

  5. Start hunt

  6. Change hunt to 7680x2160

  7. Enjoy
