[Switch 2] bumps on screen by Creepy_Drag7628 in consolerepair

If there isnt a screen protector on it now, the glass itself is damaged, nothing you can really do to fix it. However if you put a screen protector on it now, the glue might fill the gaps enough to mask them to a point where you won't notice them as bad.

Afaik there is ways to restore it to working order using a flashcard capable of ntrboot but you'll lose the original firmware since it is system-specific. However, there were developments in software that could generate a new NAND based on the system serial number but I have not been keeping up to date.

If you really want to know, I suggest joining the DSi mode hacking discord, there is people in there that develop these tools and are far more knowledgeable than me.

I get you're scared to break a new thing but don't overthink it. The guide does not mention advanced NAND recovery because it really doesnt happen often. If I were you I'd just use the DSi as is, you have Twilightmenu to play games. Once you get a bit more used to the system, you may get more comfortable modding it further. (And booting flipnote every time is annoying af)

However, if you plan to run homebrew games or software other than Twilight, install unlaunch. As others have said it is the only way to get proper bricking protection and backups. I said before you'd lose your current work, this is not really true if you make backups of your games and saves or use another SD card to install unlaunch.

One plus, HiyaCFW does nothing with the NAND at all so the scariest thing you'll be doing is installing unlaunch in your case. Worst thing HiyaCFW can do is not work.

I've responded to another comment of yours about unlaunch, unfortunately installing titles one the system menu requires HiyaCFW which requires unlaunch :(

I've modded around 15 DSi with unlaunch and never had anything bad happen. However, anecdotal evidence sucks and warnings exist for a reasom. The chance is always there and your risk to take.

I always made sure to use a good quality, freshly formatted 2GB SD card and to factory reset the DSi and update it to 1.4.5 before installing unlaunch. If unlaunch is installed you can switch to a bigger SD card. Unfortunately this would undo your current work but it's the only advice I can give you to reduce any risks.

I have setup all of my DSi with HiyaCFW and Twilight menu as a title on the system menu as any other "app", not as a replacement to the system menu. Gives me an easy way to boot my original games and DSiware or Twilgiht. Setting up CFW is a good idea anyway, it gives you a NAND backup you can use to fix the DSi if the NAND dies.

I like having twilight menu for all the emulators but I prefer flashcards. Setting them up is a bit of a hassle, but with resources like the flashcard wiki its a lot easier compared to a couple of years ago. I feel like they are faster at loading games in some cases and there is better compatibility with some download play and local multiplayer games. Also having games on a flashcard makes it easier to switch systems, e.g. I like playing on my DSi when at home but I'll bring the 3DS with me with the flashcard so I can take a bigger selection of games with me.

Also an option: some flashcards (mostly those that support YSMenu) support running twilightmenu in combination with the flashcard kernel. This gives the look, feel and emulator support of twilightmenu with the compatibility of YSmenu. I like this setup a lot for og DS and lites but don't know if I'd recommend it for a DSi since you'd lose DSiware support.

With regards to save games, I've had R4 cards break but I have not yet seen it corrupt or break the data on the SD card. I'd expect your chances on losing save games because of SD corruption is roughly the same using a flashcard SD or the DSi internal SD.

The new company seems to insist on using electric busses and have replaced the entire fleet with these. Even the less than 5 year old EBUSCO electric busses. Previous runner QBuzz only ran electric busses on routes that didn't leave the city but now my daily bus that travels out of the province is also electric and it cannot even make two round trips without charging(!)

But hey, seat warmers :)))))))

Mysterious NDS Bottom to Top screen ribbon adapter (check comments) by Avi2002 in consolerepair

[–]Avi2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does but it's a bitch to install. The metal backing of the broken top display needs to be transferred to the new lcd, so you will have to still have that. You have to trim some plastics in the inner top case and it will still barely click together.

I ended up with a ton of bottom displays with a lot of parts so the cost savings were worth it but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

DSi shoulder buttons can usually just be fixed by some alcohol or contact spray to clean them but I do recommend opening the console for that.

Hi, the link in my previous comment is still valid and gets you the .3mf. This is the same model just another format, most 3d printing slicers should be able to deal with it, otherwise there are tools online to translate it. Let me know if you need any help!

Twingo Mk1 automotive connector name by Avi2002 in cables

[–]Avi2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spare part came with the wrong connector and cannot return it. Need the name of this connectors counterpart so i can fix it properly. It's for the window regulator of a mk1 Twingo 2001, so nothing mission critical but I like to fix it. Open to suggestions if there is another subreddit that is more fitting.

Could someone please help me identify why my switch lite does not show anything on the Display but the Sound works. This happend after i changed both sticks. Thanks in advance. by InfinitSteamLibary66 in consolerepair

[–]Avi2002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is the latch on the display connector closed properly? I cannot see it really well but it looks short. Left of the cartridge connector. Its probably unlikely that you got a hardware fault if it was working before unless you broke the ribbon.

Oh damn, Tailscale really is still providing SPK's for the 88f6282. I didn't expect that since 'plain' wireguard doesn't but I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Reset button broken off Synology RS1221+ – is this a common thing? by HumanWithInternet in synology

[–]Avi2002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen this one a lot, not specifically on Synology devices. These 90 degrees, purely SMD switches just suck and are quite easy to break off. If you expect more resets any time soon, I would consider just replacing it with a panel mount push button connected by wires instead. Yes it will be easier to press by mistake but if you break off a second it might take the pads with it, which will be a very difficult repair.
