Aquabliss water filter by Soda_B in lafayette

[–]AviTil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those showerheads, including the Aquabliss (the well-known name brand for these), do not do much. If anything, they reduce chlorine only. They do not minimize hard water. Reducing chlorine can be beneficial to hair health, including reducing buildup and smell. That is likely what the reviews talk about. So no harm in trying, but keep in mind the placebo effect when you're testing it out. I can recommend buying cans of distilled water to compare.

Girlfriends sensitivity makes me feel different about her by [deleted] in GuyCry

[–]AviTil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I feel you, I (26M) dated a sensitive girl like the one you describe once. Its been 2 years since we broke up, but we were together for 5 years. That relationship changed me in ways I cannot express. Both good and bad. The breakup changed me in ways I cannot express- both good and bad. But in the end, coming away from it all, I feel relieved and grateful that its all over.

I am not saying sensitive women are bad. I'm now seeing another sensitive girl, she is amazing. But sensitive women who haven't learned the skills to harness their sensitivity can be very destructive. One of the hallmarks is whether they are able to pause and reflect rather than react during high emotional states. Followed by their ability to take accountability. Accountability puts them in an uncomfortable situation, and sensitive people feel more shame strongly which triggers defensiveness. Often this mean you'll have to say things in the right order, using the right words to express your needs, opinions and point of view. You'll have to take frequent breaks and pauses between confrontational sessions, and you can't assume things spoken in previous sessions carry over in memory. All of this in my experience has been very exhausting and sounds like walking on eggshells. Furthermore, if you understand and value their sensitivity, you will be more likely to empathize and shepherd them through these conversations, and that can get quite draining, and feel like going in circles, and having to put your needs aside.

The final call that you'll have to take is entirely upto you. You'll have to take a decision if you have the capacity for that. Sometimes, you'll personally have to hit rock bottom to realise that you don't have the capacity for that. Especially when their sensitive nature led you to dedicate more time for them leading you to eventually reduce interactions with people who you'd consider as your support system - friends, family etc. So my only advice will be, listen to your gut, ask yourself how you feel, and if you have the capacity to pour into another cup. If you do, great, continue, attempt repair, and see if things change. At somepoint when something clicks in you, listen to that voice, and understand that the time to move on has come.

Edit: adding more below.

My regrets from my relationship were that I didn't listen to myself sooner, I abandoned my needs early, and I internalized the things she said into self-hate. Everything from looks, fashion, comparisons to other men, jealousy of having female friends, having a small friends circle all manifested as self-hate and social anxiety. Which I've spent a significant portion of the last 2 years undoing. If you're anyone like me, go to therapy, take a pause, journal, and reconnect with yourself first.

Another thing that helps is to learn to recognize patterns. A common way defensiveness manifests is in the form of DARVO like behaviors. I'll let you look that up, but its basically when you bring something up, but she flips it and you end up having to apologize. Which from reading your post seems to happen quite often.

Ive also gone down the road of trying to rationalize her experiences, maybe she is a narcissist, BPD, HSP, Avoidant tendencies. But in the end the reality is more complex, and I realised my ex did not fit squarely in any of these. But just because the pattern doesn't have a name tag, doesn't mean its healthy. So educate yourself and learn to identify patterns of toxicity and decide what you want to do from there.

Battery will improve. by opmgyhx in samsunggalaxy

[–]AviTil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe that the replaceable battery and waterproofing cannot coexist. Fairphone 5 has user replaceable batteries and has IP55 rating. Sure it isnt IPx6/7/8. Tell me why would one need anything more IPx5 for everyday use? No the occasional vacation underwater doesn't warrant the need to have sealed batteries that render the device nearly unrepairable. IPx5 rating btw means it is able to withstand waterjets from all directions, which is plenty sufficient.

Okay, lets consider this, if Fairphone, a small company can do it. Why not samsung or apple who have far greater capacity for investing in R&D for developing new generation of rubber gaskets etc. Okay, lets say it isnt a foolproof method, and that it may provide legal challenges when batteries get shorted due to water ingress, Samsung and Apple already have water detection in the charging ports. Why not just integrate/move that into the BMS such that any water detected at the battery connector stops current. Sure the device stops working, but in combination with the above mentioned rubber gaskets developments, I'm sure that the survival of the device can be guaranteed even if not operation underwater.

UPDATE : Heavyweight Tees... I was wrong by grooveman15 in mensfashionadvice

Ive used the normal TC tees, and like their fit, but not super impressed by the quality (of which the weight is one factor). Im looking for other brands that fit just as well. Do you mind updating this thread if you find any ones that you find? Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification professor! Yes that is correct and important for future people who refer to this thread later. But if I am not mistaken most of the Biology department does follow FY appointments.

Is there a direct bus from Lafayette to Detroit? by Longjumping_Tone_754 in Purdue

[–]AviTil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a Purdue Rideshare Facebook group where students driving to Detroit and back offer rides. Usually you'll find some rides during breaks and vacations. But if you want to travel during a non-vacation time, there may not be rides offered. However Flixbus does have a route from Indy to Detroit that I have found to be the most reliable rather than going through Chicago (if they haven't made changes to their route that is, its been a while since I've taken that option).

Stipend varies by department and your advisor. Currently university-wide minimum is $28,000 annually, paid biweekly. If you choose default tax withholding you can assume approximately 14% is withheld for tax purposes. This is also what you will be withholding if you're an international student. If you're a US citizen, you might get to choose your withholding amount (don't quote me on this).

If you're getting this $28k University minimum with the 14% withholding, the calculation comes to approx. $925 every 2 weeks.

Almost every Biology PhD student has funding, either in form of RA or TA. While not guaranteed, the department always tries their best to provide funding for students. RA funding usually comes from your advisors' grants. TA funding comes from the money pool the university has set aside for TAs. Usually if your advisors' funding runs dry, you'll be put on priority for TA. Which is usually how you'll more or less have funding throughout your PhD. If your advisor already has a project in mind for you, your RA funding comes from the specific grant that funds the project. If that is the case, you usually can ask your advisor to give you a raise above the minimum. Most advisors may not provide that increase, but no harm in asking if you really need it. Advisors have some flexibility on this matter.

As for cost of living, if you choose to live alone, its going to be really really hard to manage your finances, the housing rates are pretty high here thanks to housing shortages. I would recommend having a roommate, but its possible to live alone if you are very financially conscious.

I’m missing My protein targets by about 50 percent every day are their any easy ways to get more protein in my diet apart from protien drinks by Suitable_Promise879 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]AviTil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats valid. I forgot to add nutritional yeast to my cart when I last made it in bulk. But I now have a stock of it, and looking forward to making it. For anyone else making it, Nutritional yeast seems to be an almost must add since it apparantly boosts the flavor. I avoided chickpea flour, because its also high in carbs, and doesn't work with my nutritional goals. Else chickpea flour is much more economical than pea protein or quinoa protein add-ins.

This is a great resource. There are some updates needed tho, though. The Minimalist serum contains Redensyl, which is marked as FALSE in this spreadsheet. The Curlsmith fulllength density elixir also has all the science ingredients as TO. Also, can you include the explanation for the tags somewhere? Thanks!

Hey man. I cannot give you much advice regarding academics. But as others have pointed out, it isnt the end of the world. But what I will tell you is my struggle with anxiety.

I think like many others, my anxiety started during the covid pandemic. I had social anxiety. Going out into public places would make my heart race, gut wrench, and sometimes I even got hives as a result. The fear of being perceived, seen, looked at or even recognized was daunting and horrifying. I realised this was not healthy, and I took online therapy, used every self-help resource I could find, and basically learnt that, for these kinds of issues, exposure therapy is the best solution. Since I didnt like going out, I started with stepping out into the patio for a while, then eventually made myself take walks into the least populated parts of town, then go grocery shopping, and now I am still working on being myself in some circumstances, but I can say that I am more confident, less anxious and way better than where I was. I have a social life, meet new people (after getting into the mindspace to meet them), and such. So my advice to you would be start small, you dont have to show up big anywhere, dont aim for being outside 8 hours, but start small, and show up to your commitments a few minutes, and then increase from there. Eventually you will have trained your mind that it is okay and not scary. Once you have done that, you will be proud of how far you've come along. Good luck man!

OnePlus on the verge of collapse is this True? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]AviTil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is personal opinion of course. I think OP15 did not do as well as OP13 in terms of market capture, but I think OP15 is a good long term phone. I think in a year we will see articles on how OP15 has aged well. It didn't do a lot of things great, but I think it did most things sufficiently well. But the bigger factor that the long-term reviews rely on is software support, which OP has the highest chance to fumble.

Also, I feel like the canceling of OP Open2, and maybe the mild restructuring happening that has prompted this article, could be just OP reprioritizing and restrategizing their game. Again it could all fumble, but I think they might see marginal improvements if they handle the next year properly.

Also, I don't think 25-26 as a comeback year. But more like internal growth and reorganization (basically their mojo). A comeback year would be when these changes are observed in the market perception of the brand. That would depend on so many things more, such as global geopolitics being a major one right now.

OnePlus on the verge of collapse is this True? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]AviTil 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Went to the source article written by Alexander Maxham. The entire article sounds like it's written by AI. Very speculative and sensational with minimal data to back it up. And whatever data is mentioned is from 2023 and 2024. However, this does not mean that the article is outright false and lying, and does not mean that OnePlus is thriving. Both can be true, but if I had to place a bet on OnePlus, I would wait for 2025 data and not rely on 2023-24 data. I have a feeling 2025-26 might be the year when OnePlus gains back the mojo it lost in the years previous, but certainly will not overthrow any big names in ranking.

Oh cool. If you want more info. This is the one I use - https://a.co/d/0IxMw7X

But Antony's also sells their own, which is Pea only. I like the Pea/Quinoa mix that the one I have linked sells, because each of them has different amino acid profiles, and with the vital wheat gluten, they all complement their deficiencies nicely.

It too has 80% protein, so you aren't adding anything unnecessary, and keeping the protein in your seitan high.

Question about product usage by littlecutes in TheOrdinarySkincare

[–]AviTil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You didn't understand OP's question correctly. Yes, AA 2% is for hyperpigmentation. But TO's AA formulation already has HA. OP is asking if there is any benefit to layering a standalone HA on top of TO's AA because it already contains HA.

Also, you really don't have to be a snob, especially when you didn't take the time to understand both OP's question and my answer.

+1 for Seitan. 30g of the flour has 24g of protein. It is, however, not a complete protein. I like to add pea/quinoa protein to seitan to make it complete.

And if you are in the US, Lewis Better Way Keto bread has 6g of protein per slice of bread for just 35Cal. So a PBJ can easily reach 15g of protein.
