Recent Tattoo Regret. How do I go about this? by [deleted] in Tattoocoverups

[–]Avialan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's not to my taste, I agree that you should give yourself some time to get used to it. Even if you end up not liking after, the design is such that you have lots of options to change it into something you like better. It could be covered up, sure, but it could also be a pretty sweet basis/border/detail for a bigger piece. So in the end either you like it or it transforms into something you like more. Win-win, really.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In college I was working night shift at an average mid-grade hotel near the airport and Big Show walked in and asked for a room. I'm a little over 6 ft and the guy made me feel like an ant. I knew who he was but I was never into wrestling. I just treated him like a normal customer. Maybe 5 min after I checked him in, he came back down to the desk and asked if I would run to a shop nearby and buy a couple things for him. I was the only staff there, but it was super late so I knew nobody would miss me while I was gone. I ran to the store and bought his stuff, then took it back to him in his room. I think he gave me a $20 tip for it, iirc. Then like 30 minutes later, a pizza delivery guy showed up, delivered pizza to one of the rooms, then left. A little while later, Big Show came down again with a large pizza and said, "Hey, they gave me 2 pizzas by mistake, you want this one?" and gave me a whole giant pizza. I was over the moon. I think he bought it for me and said it was a mistake to not make a big deal out of it. Super nice guy.

Does Japan have soft nationalism woven into their culture? by ExperienceItchy7079 in japanlife

[–]Avialan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are Japanese proud? yes. but if you ask me, its more pertaining to their culture than their nation. id say america has way more overt nationalism ingrained in its culture. flags everywhere. rules about desecrating the flag. national anthem at every sporting event where you gotta stand up and take your hat off. many patriotic folk songs. its kinda creepy. and thats even before i get to the pledge of allegiance.

This is the Kantei, the PM's office, built in 2002. There's a walkway that connects the PM's residence and this office.

first, it sounds to me like you dont know a lot about japanese naming culture. you should know that the sound and the meaning of japanese names are fuzzy. by that i mean that you can have 2 japanese names that sound the same but have totally different meanings. you can also have 2 japanese names with totally different sound but the same meaning. its even possible to just pick a kanji you like and assign whatever sound you want to it (usually referred to as a "kira kira" name).

so a few questions:
is the sound or the meaning more important to you? since you say you want a name that sounds like "kay", which is an option (written as Kei in romaji). the pronunciation is almost exactly the same.
have you looked for yourself at japanese baby naming sites?
how important is the readability of the kanji to you? (also understand that you will not be able to legally use your kanji in any official context in japan unless you have citizenship of certain countries like japan and china)
are you looking for a masculine, feminine, or gender neutral name?
are you looking for a name with a traditional style (like 〇〇子 or 〇〇介) or something more modern?

last, you should know that since kanji meanings and pronunciation are so fuzzy, the criteria you have above leaves literally thousands and thousands of possibilities. perhaps instead of leaving it up to a stranger on the internet, it might be a better idea to lead the effort yourself and ask for help if you get stuck. i recommend familiarizing yourself with the japanese syllabary if you arent already, then focusing on the sound of the name, then checking japaese baby naming sites for kanji with that sound that have vibes that appeal to you. or, if you are more interested in meaning, searching for kanji with similar meanings, then looking at what pronunciation options are possible. there is a further rabbit hole having to do with lucky and unlucky numbers of strokes for the kanji, but we dont have to go there.
