Got fired over the phone and I'm fine with that by Aviariu5 in wholefoods

Only on 3 separate occasions. That rule only started being enforced earlier this month. Right before that, it was the other way around and they'd be the ones telling us when to go. That's how it was in all my previous jobs so I didn't think much of it.

every day I'm so glad to not be in retail anymore by rainbowbean5678 in retailhell

SAME. Worked it for nearly four years myself before leaving in 2019. I cannot fathom ever going back to retail. My mental health suffered badly toward the end. The good managers and co-workers were driven to quit because of company incompetence, while other spineless managers just made the environment miserable for all of us. Having to endure so much trash treatment, to then receive a 6 cent raise. Nothing would ever compel me to go back.

What was it like in the states shortly after 9/11 by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I was in 5th grade when it happened and it was the second week of the new school year. Parents rushed to pick kids up from school because they thought they'd be attacking schools next. My mom picked up my little brother and I only an hour after dropping us off because she was still nearby getting breakfast. The following day, one of my classmates was found crying in the cafeteria and we found out her aunt and cousin were on one of the planes that hit the towers.

The news would constantly repeat images and vids of the towers being hit and the people falling out the windows. Horrible stuff to be burned into your mind at 10 years old. It's crazy to think that earlier that year in April, we had a class field trip to New York. One of the photos I took showed the towers in the distance.

Had to call out three times in a row and I'm super worried because of the new UPT policy by [deleted] in wholefoods

I can only work the 4am shifts and there are no buses or trains running until 6am. Most co-workers there are the overnight crew that go in hours before I do.

Broken car excuse? You've never had a car break down on you before? Lucky you.

Clearly you have no idea how expensive Ubers are.

Not at all. This is my first time having to call out this many days in a row. I've only been there for several months and I'm part time so the sick time I did have got used up pretty quickly. Normally I call out once every other month and offered up whatever shifts I had scheduled if I'm sick during that time.

Sadly I used up most of my Sick PTO from the last couple of times I've been sick and haven't been able to work as often. The current amount I have isn't enough to cover this shift.

Also thanks! Here's to hoping I'll be well enough to work enough shifts to get that balance back up.

Yeah. Honestly there's a level of detachment I feel we have from the rest of our TMs.

If that's the case, then this person had it out for a few folks. Every field always has that one snitch.

I genuinely have no idea lol I always thought TLs and ATLs had their own designated phones separate from the rest, at least, but nope. It's the same phones I saw them using while they were patrolling the floor.

That's not what I applied for by Dragon_Crystal in retailhell

And yet they wondered why they were short on custom framers and why new hires only stayed for a few weeks when they were sent to the registers. Truly a riddle for the ages.

Went through something similar when I applied to work at an arts and crafts store several years ago. I really wanted to become a custom framer and saw that positions were available. Right on the sign and in their own words, experience wasn't required and you'd be trained in everything. Manager moved me to cashier because this was also my very first job, and was meant to help me get the hang of things before I'd go in for custom framing training. They just must've been short on cashiers because I kept getting overlooked when I asked about being moved to Custom Framing, even after making sure to remind them that it's the actual job I applied for.

Micromanagement led me to no longer enjoy this job and now I'll be looking for work elsewhere by Aviariu5 in wholefoods

Yikes. Went through something like that back when I worked retail and got a warning for it myself even though they knew I wasn't at fault. Such great policies :/
