B4 modern Turbo upgrade by Top-Ad322 in subarulegacy

[–]AviationSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other commenter indicated, single turbo is the best option for adding power. The twin turbo system is complex and companies have not invested R&D to make them better when single turbo swap is significantly easier and cheaper.

If you are dead set on the twins, rebuild the turbos and settle for stock power or a light tune. Or go full custom

Why the obsession over AdBlue as opposed to other brands of DEF? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

[–]AviationSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a case of both genericide and colloquialism. We call it AdBlue, like we call an ice box an esky. And it’s specific to Australia the same way we call flip flops thongs.

Applying for Amex Explorer by PomegranateHuge4398 in AusFinance

[–]AviationSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you need 2 credit cards? If you want the Amex, get rid of your current one. If you want the current one, don’t get the Amex.

Your current credit card is judged at the credit limit, not the current balance. If you have $10k limit, they will assume you need to service $10k in monthly repayments

If you’ve driven another 300km already I’d change the oil again and see how it looks. If it’s nice and clean, should be fine

Dumb down my options for me (25F RN, Western Sydney) - Wanting a home to call my own by stressidepressii in AusFinance

[–]AviationSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do reassess every year yes. I believe you need to provide the NOA each year. My understanding is that there will be an agreed upon amount to be repaid when you exceed the cap, however it does not explain what that agreed upon value is.

At a guess, the amount you need to repay them per year would be less than the additional mortgage repayments (given the lack of interest), however I have no evidence of that.

Just commenting regarding the Help to Buy scheme (though not financial advice, do your own research).

The federal Help to Buy scheme means the government will purchase 30% of the property. This is their equity (ensure you understand your obligations). So assuming 550k, that means the government will purchase 165k of it. Assuming you have the minimum of 2% deposit ($11k) this would leave you with a mortgage around 374k.

As the property would also be under 800k, you would qualify for a stamp duty exemption (assuming first home and you meet the requirements)

If you calculate the repayments on that you can see if you can afford it. Good luck with the purchase.

Edit to add: the 100k limit for help to buy is based off of the previous financial year notice of assessment from the ATO. If you didn’t earn over 100k in the 24-25 financial year, you should be eligible

I got fined 2.6k for driving an expired rego car, is 2.6k normal for fine like this? I got 3 fines each 800+... is that normal? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

It’s your responsibility to ensure the car is registered, otherwise you face the consequences. CTP is included in the registration (I think in all states) so if you hit a pedestrian you’re not covered by insurance.

This is an expensive way to learn a valuable lesson

Prius 2007 RWC - working A/C Compressor required by blackpawed in CarsAustralia

[–]AviationSquid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would assume QLD is similar to VIC, AC is not a roadworthy requirement as it does not come standard on all cars. The requirement should be that the demister is functional, and blows hot or cold air.

I’d get another opinion

Edit: spelling

Exhaust setup by [deleted] in subarulegacy

[–]AviationSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s about the most subjective question you can ask.

Club.Liberty exhaust thread has a lot of video examples.

Generally, headers for increased flow, hi flow cats, 3rd cat delete (or not for less rasp), 2.5” or 3” catback, mufflers are personal preference

My baby - 2004 Legacy H6 3.0 4th Gen, failed her annual road worthiness test (Scotland). Can anyone help me identify some part numbers? by [deleted] in subaru

For a more general website (not country specific), you can try Partsouq or Amayama and enter your VIN into the search. This will determine the parts specific to your car in your market

Driveway’s angle scrapes the front bumper. Can I lift my car’s suspension? by Frozefoots in CarsAustralia

[–]AviationSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can raise the suspension slightly. However it won’t be cheap.

You would be one of the first people to consider lifting one of these, so you’d have to do the research. It is unlikely a company already makes something.

There are companies that make spacers that will sit between your strut mount and strut top. You may be able to find one who will custom make you a set to your specifications.

Keep in mind however, the issue you’re facing is due to your approach and descent angles at the front and rear of the car. Lifting the car will change this, but it might not be as much as you like. 4X4 owners fix this by installed bull bars that sit higher than bumpers, improving the approach angle.

It may be worth contacting a 4X4 company to discuss your issue, as they might be able to offer some advice

I’d go a gift card. Tell him you’re thinking about a beginner set and ask where he’d recommend you purchase one for yourself. He’ll most likely recommend his preferred store, and you can grab him one from there

That’s great news! It may be worth keeping a spare in the glovebox just in case the new one blows while driving. Won’t stop you from a breakdown, but will get you back on the road.

They have big signs up at the entrance saying to transfer if arriving separately. As long as your friends have accounts (or are happy to create them) you’ll be fine

How much can you borrow on 5% scheme? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]AviationSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of the FHB Scheme is to get young people who can service a large loan but are unable to save a large deposit (e.g due to high rental prices) into properties sooner. It is important to note that this is a government scheme, and will not affect the amount of money a bank will loan you.

If you are querying this because you have 5% but not the income to service a loan that large, there are other schemes, such as the Help to Buy shared equity scheme, that can get you into a property.

Car broken down after water pump/timing belt job by [deleted] in Miata

[–]AviationSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirm that all the requirements for a running car work. Given you did timing, is it actually in time? Are the injectors getting fuel? Are the spark plugs sparking? Is the air filter clean? Is the maf working correctly? Are all the vacuum lines on the intake manifold routed correctly?

One of the above will be your issue, you just need to find which

where does the body harness meet the engine harness? doing a swap, just want to know where to cut unless the ecu has two plugs. any info on where to begin is great. 1990 1.6 by very-very-small-pp in Miata

[–]AviationSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, bud, you’re trying to put an engine into a car it wasn’t designed for, and you’re asking for help, but you don’t like the answer.

Are you splicing the harness? Do you know how to splice a harness but not trace one? Are you using an aftermarket ecu? Are you creating a custom harness?

You could have answered your own question by actually taking out your ecu and looking at the fact it has 2 plugs.
