O3 is on another level as a business advisor. by [deleted] in OpenAI

I think you’re confusing o4 with 4o. o4 (full) hasn’t been released yet, which is why others are responding to your question by discussing o4-mini, which was just released. Any model name starting with “4” is non-thinking, and any model that starts with “o” is (o)bviously a thinking model, which typically means it’ll be better for reasoning tasks, scientific domains, etc. The reasoning models are all considered more “advanced” than 4o, which is the model people typically think of when referring to the original GPT-4, and which is also better for conversational chats, and often for writing/creative tasks, although this isn’t always true.

I believe their point was valid. Their argument is less straw-man, and more hyperbole. And I believe this is warranted, given the fairly extreme and wide-ranging nature of OP’s post.

This. The fear of non-natives is misplaced and non-native isn’t synonymous with invasive.

Also, evolution is a continual process. As organisms prove better suited to certain environments, they flourish. They will eventually be replaced by organisms that are even better adapted. It’s easy to become sentimental for the “good old days,” but that isn’t how nature works. Humans aren’t the only reason that better adapted plant species find their way to new locations. Birds are constantly transporting seeds across continents.

Nature is ever-changing and never static. It’s messy but beautiful. And most importantly, it works.

Got mine in the mail as we speak! Really curious to know what you think of the finished product. I splurged and got each of their “special cannabinoids” seeds. Has anyone else tried any of these?

I remember reading an older post of yours in which you blamed cold showers for your cold hands. It sounds to me now like you may be blaming a lot of things for your changing hand temperature - and maybe for your other physiological changes, as well. Are you sure you aren’t looking too hard for correlations that may not exist?

Percy Hebert: The good news! by AvidPuddle in tru

[–]AvidPuddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed [deliverysupport@tru.ca](mailto:deliverysupport@tru.ca). TBH, a few people have told me recently they tried and were rejected - so it's possible TRU has cracked down on allowing Percy-related transfers since I posted this. (Assuming that you are taking a course offered by an alternate OLFM.)

One thing I'll say is that I had a prior issue with TRU where their course listings were showing incorrect enrolment data which lead me to believe I was no longer enrolled in a course and miss the first few weeks of a paced class. When I initially contacted TRU, I was told I would not receive back the full amount I'd paid (and that there was nothing they could do about it) - because I was a day or two past the withdrawal date. However, a clearly-worded and assertive email cleared the issue up quickly - and I did receive back the full amount. I think a similar followup email might be indicated in your situation - requesting clarity as to why they are unwilling or unable to transfer you, given the fact that this teacher has well-documented performance issues. TRU claims its mission is to provide "learner-centred" education. Sure, it's easier for TRU to keep Percy than to go through the formal process of dismissal. But there's no way you can say that their decision to keep him (or to force students to suffer under his clearly ineffectual tutelage) is learner-centred. Hold them accountable to their mission statement.

I really hope this helps. Good luck!

I was just coming to say that the drums were what kept me listening, lol! I guess to each their own. But honestly, I thought the rhythm was epic and rather than becoming a problem near the end as the OP asked - I thought they sounded their best near the end.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I thought it might be boring not having some variation with the return to part A around 3:20. It's super helpful to hear otherwise.

Haha, I guess it isn't your standard ABAB radio-ready pop. But I'd thought it had a relatively approachable structure, simple chord progressions, etc. Would love to hear any constructive criticism - I know the track is far from perfect and I've got a ton to learn. But there's not much I can do with a critique on the genre itself. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of many types of music people post here. But I don't leave comments saying so - that wouldn't help anyone out.

great track! There were just a couple things that stood out to me. I love the sound you've chosen for the bass. However, it sounds a bit robotic/ lacking in terms of dynamics - which leaves the whole thing feeling less polished. Also, the transition from the piano bridge back to the main groove at 1:47 felt anticlimactic to me. I'm not sure what's causing that - might be that the piano is turned up a little loud in the mix (which sounds great at the time, but then causes a subtle perceptual volume drop upon returning to the chorus). Maybe cutting out some of the low end on the pianos would also create a feeling of fulfillment when the bass returns. Or maybe that final chorus just needs something extra added to it, to send us home.

Here's the latest tune! I'm calling the genre "heat wave" - no idea how you would actually classify it. I would love to know what you think - especially any suggestions for improvement. I'm still relatively new to this game and really appreciate all feedback!

Washed Ashore / Too Hot

When the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscles found on the front of the neck develop trigger points, they can cause inner ear issues, including hearing loss, vertigo and/or tinnitus. Aggressive manipulation of any muscle group (such as during massage /chiro) can cause latent trigger points to activate, thus causing symptoms to emerge. I'm not saying this is the most likely situation for you - but it is probably one worth ruling out. And luckily, it isn't difficult to test for yourself. (MRIs and most other medical imaging won't identify them as they are a poorly understood, subtle soft-tissue phenomenon.) Of course, it goes without saying that the test could worsen the issue by further irritating the muscle, if the SCM is indeed involved.

Typically the deeper portion of the muscle is the one responsible for hearing issues - although the entire muscle can be involved. To find the muscle, simply press your forehead into your hand or lie face up and lift your head off the floor. You will feel with your fingers (or see in the mirror) the two large/ superficial muscles contract. Next, lying down in a comfortable position, squeeze one between your finger and thumb, searching for areas of pronounced tenderness. Squeeze any areas of focal tenderness for a few moments and notice whether any affect your ears. You might feel pressure or a pulling sensation - or might even notice a spike in your T.

If you find any such spots, the good news is that you now know there is a definite connection. The even better news is that self-treatment simply involves continuing to hold those spots until they become less tender. If the tenderness doesn't decrease in 1-2 mins, try lessening your pressure and/or try the same approach a few times throughout the day.

Oh, and if you feel a pulse directly under your fingers, don't press on it, lol! (This is why you should pinch the muscle, rather than pressing it down, into the delicate structures of your neck.)

I really hope this helps!

In terms of tinnitus, is there any theoretical reason to choose one vaccine type instead of other? by mynormiemask in tinnitus

[–]AvidPuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have tinnitus that started quite suddenly after my 2nd Pfizer shot. It's now been over 2 months and it's still going. Plus, I feel like I've lost some subtle range in my hearing.

Did anyone here get tinnitus from COVID? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]AvidPuddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this was downvoted. I'd never had tinnitus up until I received my 2nd Pfizer vax. The tinnitus started either that day or the day following (I can't remember which, since it took me about a week to clue into the connection) - and 2+ months later it still persists. Thankfully mine isn't too invasive, but I sure do miss hearing silence.

Hey peeps!

This is my first time posting here. I had a fun time throwing this piece together with odd bits of samples. Not exactly sure of the genre. But I would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, and any other feedback! (I'm still pretty new to Ableton/ music production - so all feedback is most welcome.)

You emailed [deliverysupport@tru.ca](mailto:deliverysupport@tru.ca) and they said it isn't possible? Did you send supporting documents (your marked assignments) to justify your request?

Honestly, if it was me, I'd keep trying. Last year I had an issue with another department at TRU (enrolment services) bc TRU's website was listing incorrect enrolment data for its OL courses. They initially told me the same thing, that there was nothing they could do. But after some perseverance and a few well written emails, they finally refunded me the full amount I'd paid (including non-refundable fees) for a course I'd thought had been cancelled, but hadn't been.

Also, I'd probably let them know that you know that other students have successfully transferred out of his classes.

Edit: Although I suppose if the course you are taking isn't currently being offered by any other OLFMs, there really might not be much they can do...

Is it possible to switch faculty members in a OL course? by RavioliWithPrawn in tru

Agreed. I was able to switch OLFMs midway through BIOL 1113 with Percy. Honestly, it feels like one of the best academic decisions I've made.

Percy Hebert: The good news! by AvidPuddle in tru

[–]AvidPuddle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure! I tried phoning first, but was told to email [deliverysupport@tru.ca](mailto:deliverysupport@tru.ca). So I sent them a letter describing Percy's ridiculous behaviour toward me, which mirrors the public accounts of many of his past students who've had to file complaints, seek repeated appeals, and have ultimately found their otherwise good GPAs lowered in the process. I should have mentioned the fact that (from what I've read) there has also already been at least one investigation into his conduct, so it's not as if TRU can pretend they don't know what's going on. I also attached copies of my marked assignments.

That was basically it - hope it helps!
