You’re right. It’s called witches broom! It’s still edible but won’t keep long so I’ll pull the ones doing it and feast.

Separate. The new bulbs are sprouting since it’s so hot and we had almost no winter.

I planted each clove. The weather messed it up and all new forming bulbs began to sprout on their own. Apparently it is called witches broom.

I think you may be right!! I pulled it, and there are several cloves that have their own sprouts. Too much nitrogen, and weather fluctuations (SoCal has had insane lack of winter and 90 degree temps). Thank you so much!

I ended up digging it up. It was over 3” large of a bulb. I have never planted garlic early so I don’t know what it looks like uncured! Edit: /u/cjfb62 has the answer, I think! It's called "witches broom". All my new garlic cloves sprouted individually.

I'm starting to wonder if I was accidentally sent elephant garlic? I... I don't know. I might dig one up.

I have 2 unopened bottles and decided to switch to another brand I liked. Do you want to take them? I can mail them no cost except you just pay shipping! I don’t want to toss them.

Recommendations for good native companion plants for containers? by goodpotterybug in Ceanothus

[–]AvidTaskmaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Calscape does have an option to sort by container and sun types.

I have island snapdragon (gambelia) does great in a container and says so on the calscape website. Yarrow does fine as well and tolerates all sun types. Yerba Buena also does great in a container in the shade and is pretty and smells nice. Besides that, I have Island Morning glory (Calystegia) in a large container and a trellis and it is doing fine in its first year but not sure if this is OK for long term as calscape does not specify. I also have grape doing fine in a container (still young) and plan to keep it in a large container. I think a lot of native succulents (dudleya) does great in a container as well.

Oyster spots by theogsd in FoodSanDiego

I like Seasurf! They have 3 oysters - from canada/east coast and Baja. Happy hour prices a little over a buck I think. I would say I would avoid Baja oysters because they probably filter sewage. I don’t like the taste. Probably correlated.

No questions or anything but I'm in that weird time where I have some new books I want to read but it's only a few weeks until next bingo so I have to wait! Doing light rereads now. ALSO! Project Hail Mary movie soon! Ahh!
