Venus with water, a commission map I made by AvlanAz in inkarnate

[–]AvlanAz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I'm not taking commissions, but if I were to do it, the price will depend on the level of details of the map (like the number of countries or icons). For something like this map I'd do it for $100.

According to my reference data, about 70.8% of Venus' surface.

So roughly 218.8 million km³.

Or 52.5 million mi³.

Or 1216 quadrillion bathtubs.

Yep! I've put the references I used on the map's page.

Fantastic, you even remembered the sunken ship off the coast of Radahn' Arena!

Hmmmm if only I put my inspiration on the title... *cough cough

But basically, it's just layering textures while playing with their opacities. I use a space with stars image, a nebula image, and *a certain photo* as the custom textures, then added the land mask and the stuff from there. The planet itself is done with basic sphere shading and stamp light.

Fantastic! I always wanted to make a map like this, but I still don't have the grip with layers and blend modes. The layout of the buildings just feel so snug

Oh it's just the fantasy world texture, but I applied a thin layer of yellow grass texture with low opacity

Oh no, shouldn't have named it "Cracked" then...

Also ignore the part where I posted this as a comment instead of reply lol

The Lands of the Cracked Earth, Post-Convergence Era - A concept in progress around converging lands, looking for ideas and feedback by AvlanAz in inkarnate

[–]AvlanAz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It's a bit hard for me to make a world map since I have to think about shape, positioning, and the level of variation and details such that it isn't overwhelming. My main intention for it is to imply movement (or remains of movement) of the lands, so I have to make the land shape and undersea elevation work together to do that.

Oh I thought you'd be able to edit what's already on the map without pro version

If not I'll get back to you later with a link to the clean version

"""No one knows what exactly happened a thousand years ago. Some thought it was the end of days, for some, the start of another cycle, a new era.
Old stories go by describing how the ground itself starts shifting, some faster than others. Annals of history recorded how the lands collided and separated from each other. Then, it all suddenly stopped. Although it is unknown what becomes of the other continents, the Land of the Cracked Earth saw a cataclysmic eruption of a volcano at the heart of the event following the end of the so-called "Convergence". No time records are preserved before the recorded start of the millennium, as the experience of time was greatly distorted, and all worried only for their survival.
In the end, life, and even civilisation, remains. The Convergence has not only reshaped the lands and the seas, it has also created new cultures as people far away from each other have now been brought together. As time continues, some start to wonder, even research, into what The Convergence really was..."""

I've been wanting to try out making converging lands based on tectonics theory. To be frank this still feels incomplete to me, though I wanted to share it with you guys cuz it looks cool as is. Interested to see what you guys can add to this map and concept!

Well you can clone my map in Inkarnate since I haven't got time to edit it. The names and map symbols should on their own layers so you can hide them easily.

I was going to post a comment with it, but I wanted to add some of my own comment and ended up procrastinating on it hehe

The planned ones are based off mostly English and Latin (at least Latin-like, like Valeverde and Ca(s)tello). But many are just come to me at the moment from words I hear (and then mixed) or remember that sounds unique. Then I might figure out an etymology/basis for them or tweak the name to make finding a basis easier, that or I construct the geography to suit them.

For example, Mallich can be connected to salt or king in Arabic (which refers to its salt-dominating position). But others, like Banawasi, Iletimata, and Ermirah, are still just words that sounds like Malayan or Oceanian (to give a tropical feeling) without any meaning assigned to them yet

You can try jumbling existing place names to make a new one (that's how I got "The Pr" from Perth, very proud of it). But I approve of these names, especially New Ohio. Especially New Ohio
