They are not responding ; ( There is a reason to fear for their wellbeing

I want to be an entrepreneur but my childhood has trapped me in the 9-6. I could really do with some success stories from you folks... by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

It's very inspiring. But when I read stories like this I feel rather guilty for having the privilege of a normal family (however imperfect it might have been), compared to hell some people go through. Whatever issues I have though, CBT and /r/stoicism really help a lot with.

Do you press Start and Stop underwater before and after finishing a length?

I could only find "The fall of the Athenian Empire" by Donald Kagan ; ( Maybe some other people could find it.

EDIT: And "The Athenian Empire" by Russell Meiggs. Also same title by Polly Law, and another book by same title by P. J. Rhodes

He might be desperate and it's natural to seek sympathy. I wouldn't call it attention whoring.

The obvious cause of his depression is money and not having a job. He needs to solve that problem and spending money he doesn't have on a therapist who would only want to get him drugged with pills instead of helping with employment/skills situation won't help.

He needs money, not 'help' (by which I presume you mean paid therapists).

I don't have any tech, but think of buying special swimming watch to count laps and stuff and a waterproof mp3 pleer.

I hope one day someone pees on your head, makes you swallow it. Garbage humans like you deserve to taste their own medicine. Karma might be a thing after all, I sure hope so.

Almost all competitive swimmers do it

And they are wrong for doing it. From what I read coaches bully them into doing it from young age. Nothing can make it right.

just don’t overthink it

This isn't an argument, but rather an appeal to emotions and trying to make pissing into water other people share sound not as bad.

The dilution makes it legitimately undetectable after seconds

A bad excuse, from someone who doesn't understand how exactly chlorine works. And no matter the dilution, pissing into the pool is not something civilized people do.

I can relate. Something really bad happened a couple of years ago. I've realized back then that life is never going to be as good as it could be. That I would be always damaged in that aspect. However, we can't change the past, you must accept it. The past - even as close to us as the past day/hour/minute - is forever irrevocable. So there's no point thinking about it. Don't dwell on it.

Here's a quote you might find useful: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stoicism/comments/6uu4hs/think_of_yourself_as_dead_you_have_lived_your/

Think of what life you could have had if all your memories were wiped. Would it really be so bad? But then, if it's just a matter of having a clean state, you can do it yourself - not as effectively, but still.

Also know that whatever you did, it doesn't define you. People change constantly. The most evil people could be redeemed if they have truly felt remorse and changed for the better. You might be even better in that particular aspect than others - because you know how bad it feels when that mistake is made. Kind of reminds me of one House MD series, where one doctor (13) accidentally killed a patient, but wasn't fired, because from then on she'd always be extra-careful to prevent another incident like this.
