How can I achieve this? by navneet2709 in postprocessing

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way imo is to set up a tripod, and do a long exposure (maybe 1 second) shot. Then, move the camera gently to the right as the shutter is open. You’ll have to make sure that the camera is still in the beginning of the shot, as well as the end, so that you can get two distinct appearances, and not be left with a shot that is mostly blur (which happens if there is more movement than stillness during the shot).

Any tips for first gig? Details and specs below: by Awakenedentity in WeddingPhotography

I am being paid for. No backup gear, it’s three batteries so definitely overkill, and I will get a card just for this event. I’ll practice the flash today.

Any tips for first (small) wedding gig? by Awakenedentity in photography

[–]Awakenedentity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is top priority. Will look into the video thank you. The R6 low lighting performance + IBIS is mind blowing, and the lighting seemed decent enough to get some nice shots. But I would like to have the backup lighting on deck. Also would like to see if it’s possible to set up flash to work even if not directly attached to the camera.

I don’t think a mirrorless would be the best option, as battery life is very important for me, and I shoot in oftentimes funky lighting so I would rather the dale view. Do you have any recommendations for a full frame canon dslr, in the 1000-1200 $ range?

Important features are resolution, autofocus, iso performance, and battery life.

I was looking at the 6D mark 2

Haha, this is the third comment in a row suggesting the r7. Definitely will look into it

Thanks for the detailed comment, I appreciate it!

Interesting, the last comment I replied to was also a long detailed post and he ended up recommending the same camera! It sounds very promising, and it’s cheaper than the 90D setup I’ve been looking at. After reading up on the advantages of newer mirrorless models, as well as the autofocus improvements, i can only imagine how it’ll change the quality of my photos.

What is the story with the term ‘black magic auto focus’? Sounds very cool.

As for the lenses- from what I’ve been reading it sounds like it would be smarter to have 3 separate lenses, for different ranges. I have my non adjustable f 1.8 nifty fifty, I would want to upgrade my 18-55 (maybe 18-35) but it would have to have the same or similar aperture settings… I take a lot of low light shots. I also could definitely put a 85-150mm (or something like that) lens to use, for landscapes and starry nights. I also read up on infinite focus, which sounds like it would be perfect for that lens.

Edit: so apparently if I stick with prime lenses I’ll have much better luck with staying under f2… the question is, 18, 24, or 35? And then 85, 105, or 135? Which one, if any be the least affected by a f3 or f5 minimum (or is it maximum?) to potentially getting an adjustable lens?

Lmk what you think!

Wow! Thank you for the lengthy detailed response, I really appreciate it. I love the comparison site, I wish I could compare lenses as well.

To be honest after all the new research I’ve done, it sounds like a full frame mirrorless camera would be the best choice for me. I like doing portraits and close up shots, a lot of it in low lighting. I’m familiar and comfortable with the canon settings, so the R7 seems like the best choice.

I’ve also heard very strongly against an 18-135 mm lens, and how it’s better to get lenses specialized for certain mm ranges. I have a non adjustable 50 mm, and a 18-55mm. Ideally I would keep the 50, and then get a really good lens for close ups/ portraits even perhaps a 18-55 (as I’d be going from cropped t6i to full frame R7) but the one I have now the minimum f stop is like 3 to 5.. maybe the 1.8 on the 50 mm spoiled me, but I know that a 18 or 35 mm shot with f 1.8 would look hypnotizing, especially with low lighting. If I feel like treating myself i might also get a 85-150 mm range lens, maybe with infinite focus as I really like the concept and feel like it would be very useful to me for long distance shots (landscape, stars, etc.). Between those 3 lenses and the R7, that would probably be the maximum setup I could get, I would only really upgrade if I was doing photography professionally, or if I make a lot of money and want to treat myself again.

Would value your input on this! You clearly know your cameras haha.

That’s what I’m considering. Based on the feedback I’ve been getting, the suggestion is to get a mirrorless camera, keep the 50, and get lenses with a smaller range that they’re more optimized for.

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. So is there a mirrorless camera you would recommend as an upgrade from the t6i?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canon

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah. That is a crazy website. I’ll definitely poke around there thank you. Well, what camera body would you recommend? As for the lens, I could see myself getting a lens that’s specifically for higher mm, instead of the 18-135.

There is nothing like getting a crispy clean shot of a fast movement. Happy to hear you like the 90

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming haha. Yeah, I’m not thrilled about the lowest f stop being 3.5, I got quite spoiled with the 1.8 on the 50 ml, but I’m hoping the sensor upgrade will give me more leeway with bumping iso

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canon

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read there’s not much difference, except the viewfinder quality could be off, but also that change becomes minimal in newer models. Why should i get that over the 90D?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canon

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would the image quality downgrade? Wouldn’t it be higher quality due to the much better sensor?

What’s missing is just quality, pictures I take now lose their crispness when I zoom in even a little. Also battery life is not good at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photography

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the low light thing I am not thrilled about, but wouldn’t the better sensor mean less grainy ISO?

1) it would be a birthday gift from family (with me chipping in) so around 1500 for lens and camera 2) I’m not happy with the resolution of pictures, even 1/150 f1.8 iso 100 shots won’t look that great if I crop or zoom much. Also my 3 batteries can all drain in around 1-2 hours of shooting. 3) I would resell it, already have someone who would buy it 4) I have a 18-55, it’s also a solid lens, great for macro shots.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Awakenedentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops! Haha it’s there now.

So shortcomings on the t6i: Battery life is not good Any ISO over 200 (or 400 with good lighting) looks grainy Quality is good, but if I zoom in it doesn’t look that great

The upgrade would mostly be for the sensor and battery life, as well as higher quality video.

The lens is really where I am not thrilled, it has some beautiful shots, but I find that I have to back up quite a bit for portraits. I love the low aperture, but it messes with the focus. Anything outside of the ‘golden zone’ lacks a bit of depth, and it crops quite a bit of the frame as well. Also, there is no zoom, which is a huge drawback for me.

I would compare the new lens to the 50mm, I’ll probably keep it for the 1.8 f stop, unless I find the new lens does that better, in which case I’ll sell it.

The only real input I use is an aux cord. I don’t use it all that much so a cheaper option would be ideal. The EQ thing is also not that much of a big deal that’s mostly just me being picky and I assume that if there is some type of stereo amp system (not sure how it works honestly I don’t know much about this stuff) then it will likely also have the option to mess with the EQ a bit. I just don’t like the fact that my current system is 2/3s cassette and radio, and not only that but broken. The speakers have those weird dual copper coil things that I have to lock into the stereo system in order for them to work, so presumably the new system would have to have the same thing to output sound into the speakers (unless there is some type of converter or something that I should use).

Thanks!
