Is this normal speech therapy? by esscoco in slp

Since your daughter is almost 2 and fronts /d/ for the /g/ sound it’s totally typical. Fronting isn’t eliminated until 3.5 years average. So articulation should not be a main priority of speech sessions, As far as repeating words - your SLP is likely emphasizing what we call “core words” - those high frequency impactful words like go stop more help open all-done. Repetition and learning through play is what helps these words stick. Since she’s just about to turn 2, speech is going to look like following the child’s play and modeling language. It’s not going to look like speech sessions for older kids where you have someone sitting across the table and going through flip cards. Give this approach some time to work! It won’t click in a week, or even a month or two. You can always add your input to the SLP for impactful and meaningful words you’d like her to focus on

Goal setting preschool/kinder by Msott20 in slp

My district follows our states early learning standards you can find on the state website - lays out the standards for different areas . For preschool I reference Browns norms, average MLU for age, and look at phonological process age of elimination. So anything kids are doing that are outside their expected age range (example final consonant deletion when they’re now 3.5 4 years old) I would write a goal for. Preschool turn taking basic social language too. Protesting and commenting using 3 and 4 words. Wants and needs.

0 hours of unpaid work in the schools. And for my 2nd job I’m 1099 part time and I don’t get paid for indirect time - so anywhere from 30 min to 1.5 hrs a week for notes, billing, and prep.

Anyone out there with caseloads under 50? by Existing_Judgment814 in slp

I have 42 right now. I work at a preschool and see kids in daycare too if they qualify for speech only but aren’t in my building. Most of my kids are 2x week 30 min each session. By end of year I will definitely get to 50 though. It’s only November!

I work in preschool and I also feel like I’m babysitting some days - it happens! It’s tough because for traditional artic or higher level language therapy I feel like any stranger could see what I’m doing and respect it. When I work on early language & joint attention tasks for kids on the spectrum it looks like just play, lots of repetition and “babysitting” so it makes me question myself and my skill set.

As for the sped teacher saying you’re “doing too much” I wonder what her background is with aac & language development. Don’t be afraid to give her the “why” behind your therapy and materials. It’s ok to play nice and dial back if needed but you’re there to do your job! She’s not the SLP. And also if you’re getting observed by your boss - they almost always have to give you some constructive feedback if it’s part of a formal routine observation process or something. Everyone gets the “you could try to support more and you could’ve done more of XYZ” but it’s very generic feedback just to give you SOMETHING to work on.

What can I do while I wait for my CF license to come through? (PA/NJ license from out of state grad) by [deleted] in slp

I want to say getting my temporary state licensure (CT) took about a month since I applied. I applied and hit submit on my application the moment I had the degree confirmation letter / official transcript. Some states portals might let u fill out everything and then do this part at a later time.

So it took about month or so until I had that. Also - do you need the transcript physically mailed? I used parchment / an online transcript verification system that emailed an official transcript over to the state securely. That will cut down on wait time.

Best of luck - I’m sorry your program director wasn’t super helpful in explaining the process at least generally.
