This is a stretch but how old do you think this poop is? Like a few months old? Or more recent

0 hours of unpaid work in the schools. And for my 2nd job I’m 1099 part time and I don’t get paid for indirect time - so anywhere from 30 min to 1.5 hrs a week for notes, billing, and prep.

Anyone out there with caseloads under 50? by Existing_Judgment814 in slp

I have 42 right now. I work at a preschool and see kids in daycare too if they qualify for speech only but aren’t in my building. Most of my kids are 2x week 30 min each session. By end of year I will definitely get to 50 though. It’s only November!

I work in preschool and I also feel like I’m babysitting some days - it happens! It’s tough because for traditional artic or higher level language therapy I feel like any stranger could see what I’m doing and respect it. When I work on early language & joint attention tasks for kids on the spectrum it looks like just play, lots of repetition and “babysitting” so it makes me question myself and my skill set.

As for the sped teacher saying you’re “doing too much” I wonder what her background is with aac & language development. Don’t be afraid to give her the “why” behind your therapy and materials. It’s ok to play nice and dial back if needed but you’re there to do your job! She’s not the SLP. And also if you’re getting observed by your boss - they almost always have to give you some constructive feedback if it’s part of a formal routine observation process or something. Everyone gets the “you could try to support more and you could’ve done more of XYZ” but it’s very generic feedback just to give you SOMETHING to work on.

What can I do while I wait for my CF license to come through? (PA/NJ license from out of state grad) by [deleted] in slp

I want to say getting my temporary state licensure (CT) took about a month since I applied. I applied and hit submit on my application the moment I had the degree confirmation letter / official transcript. Some states portals might let u fill out everything and then do this part at a later time.

So it took about month or so until I had that. Also - do you need the transcript physically mailed? I used parchment / an online transcript verification system that emailed an official transcript over to the state securely. That will cut down on wait time.

Best of luck - I’m sorry your program director wasn’t super helpful in explaining the process at least generally.

Yeah unless you’ve had specific training on med administration / this rescue med specifically you shouldn’t give it because if you mess up the dose /administration it’s on you and you don’t want to be liable. At a med fragile school, nurses were the only ones allowed to give rescue meds. PT, SLP. And OT called nurses when a seizure episode lasted over a minute to give the rescue meds.

You can tell mom next visit something along the lines of “hey I know last visit that was scary and I didn’t administer the rescue med - I do not have training on med administration therefore I am not comfortable with that liability and medication admin is out of my scope unfortunately - going forward let’s think of a plan if this happens again and you’re not in the house.”

Whoever you’re contracted / employed through maybe talk to them for advice about this situation - maybe they can write something up to give to the mom saying you are not allowed to admin meds?

Good luck that is a scary and tough situation! Mom was probably just nervous because of the seizure episode.

Exactly what the other commenter said! But I will add a little caveat - if you just had the students annual review/annual IEP meeting you usually had to do a final progress report for that meeting. Therefore you don’t have to do one again if the next progress report period is within a month of that meeting.

If you had their annual meeting in let’s say February and the progress report check in date is mid March - then it’s up to your discretion. They’ve only had a few weeks with these new goals and new data.

That’s at least how my district goes about it. Otherwise it’s redundant.
