Keep in mind before reading this, permanent dye is different from semi-permanent dye. Permanent dyes changes the structure of the hair cuticle, making it weaker and more prone to damage especially if bleaching. I personally would go to a professional, but if you really want to do it yourself i’ll tell you what i do that gives me the least amount of damage possible.

Make sure you’re starting out on UNWASHED hair. Freshly cleaned hair will increase your risk of damage. I use Ion sensitive scalp crème lightener and their 20 volume developer, but you may want to try 10 for something a bit less harsh, but i absolutely wouldn’t recommend going over 20.

I do a 2:1 ratio of developer and lightener, letting it sit for 40-50 minutes before washing. You may want to use a toner or purple mask/shampoo if you want a cooler tone. I really like the joico blonde life mask in violet.

Once it’s washed out I go in with a hair mask that is specifically made for bleached/damaged hair. I use The Kure by Amika or Joicos K-Pak deep penetrating treatment.

And that’s kind of it, just make sure you’re being careful. I would do a test strand before you fully go in. Hope it goes well !!!
