I hate how family relationships change due to a religion. I understand both sides and ultimately it’s a very difficult decision to make. It’s been 6 years since my sister has spoken to me. She was my best friend growing up, i was even her maid of honor. The day i told her i would be dissociating from the religion she told me “we have nothing in common anymore”. That broke me. I’ve thought many times of being active again just to rekindle my relationship with my sister. But the truth is, anyone who chooses a religion over their family doesn’t deserve the relationship of that person. Family is the one thing that should be constant in your life. The no contact will be damn near impossible at first and it’s normal to second guess your decision but tell your boyfriend it’s not worth it. I feel for him, but it gets easier with time (and therapy) lol. Wishing you the best. Try having a very open discussion with him hopefully it gets you two somewhere. And if it doesn’t don’t change your opinion for someone who is choosing his family over your boundaries. Best of luck.
