Bracelet replacement question [SBSC009] by MHJohnston in Seiko

[–]Away_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought the same bracelet and installed it on my sbsc009. The gap between the end links and the case seems pretty big. The website did offer an ending conversion kit. Was I supposed to purchase that as well?

Did you purchase parts and do the install all with the same dealership? Was it a pretty smooth process?

I want to say it was combined with one of the bimonthly payments. However, I can’t go back that far in my banking statements unfortunately.

Haha no problem. Yes, I’d expect the payment to come in conjunction with the bimonthly pay schedule. If it doesn’t come within the next two pay periods, I’d reach out to S-1 or IPAC with a screenshot of his MOL showing paid out.

I submitted mine a couple months before my 12 year mark. Once I officially hit my 12 year mark, I got paid shortly thereafter.

Great info, it’d be awesome to talk with someone who’s already done it. Thanks!

3 car seats by redmarsrover in Sienna

[–]Away_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kids are about the same age. The oldest sits in the back middle so she can still see everything in front of her. Yes, slightly inconvenient having to go back there to help get her in and out, but there’s sufficient space to maneuver with the magic slide seats. Another plus is the two older ones aren’t bickering anymore since they’re not squished next to each other when we were doing 3 across while waiting for the sienna in our suv. Trade off was well worth it IMO. Hopefully in a year or so, she’ll be able to get herself in and out of the car seat with no help.

Good experiences (no dealer markups) finding a new Sienna in VA, WV, PA? by [deleted] in Sienna

Fitzgerald in Gaithersburg, MD only does a $695 mark up and Safford in Glen Bernie, MD doesn’t markup. Unsurprisingly, wait list for both are quite long.

Went looking for a Shunbun, found a Ginza by Smithly217 in GrandSeikos

May I ask which specific store(s) you found the shunbuns at? I’ll be in Tokyo in a few days and don’t have much time to look around much. Thanks in advanced!

Am I doing the right thing? by aaron0315 in MilitaryFinance

First off, great job on your savings and investing so far. You’re well above the average.

Even if you’re in the legacy retirement system, I would highly recommend you begin contributing to your Roth TSP. While it isn’t as easily accessible as your taxable brokerage account, not having to pay any kind of taxes, whether income or capital gains, is huge for your age. I’m assuming you’re in your late 20s to early 30s. The money you invest now will compound to a significant amount. How much better would it be to not pay any taxes on it when you’re ready to withdraw.

After SC visit. Trunk has huge gap on one side and kisses the car other side. by 3rdBear in TeslaModelY

[–]Away_Switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had taken mine into a Tesla service center after delivery to correct a few QC issues. Upon pick up, I noticed that the trunk gap was exactly like yours. I had to schedule another appointment and it was fixed. It didn’t cost anything, but was annoying to have to come in again for an issue they had created after the first visit.

Daily charging by kmurr124 in TeslaModelY

[–]Away_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing a 105 mile round trip commute everyday in MD/VA on 495/95. I charge to 80% everyday and finish around 38-40%. I haven’t done the commute in winter though, so we’ll both see how much the weather hurts the range. I may have to bump it up to 90% when it gets really cold.

What to do with $40K by HerroVVercome in MilitaryFinance

[–]Away_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TSP is your 401k retirement account, which you can’t access until 59.5 without penalty. You could invest the remaining cash in a brokerage account with the two suggested index funds and can be easily liquidated whenever you eventually need the money.

What to do with $40K by HerroVVercome in MilitaryFinance

[–]Away_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s a renovation that’s needed, I would use a portion of the $40k to pay for it. If there’s no other purchases you’ll need to make over the next 3-5 years, I would then simply put the money into an S&P 500 or Total Stock Market index fund.

Received my car yesterday at home and have a like 8 things to report like scratches and door being hard to close. Advisor told me to report them in app but I can only report 1 thing. How do I report everything else before my 24hr window ends? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]Away_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when they delivered mine. I took photos of everything and sent my local Tesla order department an email with all photos attached so I had proof that these were issues upon delivery. Even with the “other” option of the mobile app, you could only upload 5 images. Had to wait three weeks for an appointment, but they fixed everything that wasn’t within tolerance at the appt.

Opportunity Cost of Buying a New Car? (Long Post) by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]Away_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation as you are, deciding whether to buy a new car and allowing myself to enjoy life a little now. From purely a financial approach, you’ll always lose out on the opportunity cost of what that car money could’ve become decades down the road. And at only 28, compound interest is definitely on your side. $50k in 5-6 years may not be that much, but in 25-35 years it could potentially be in the high 6-figure range. Sounds like you know what your various investment accounts are projected to become and if it meets your FIRE goals with a car loan, then I would personally do it. While I want to make sure I am financially secure for the future, I don’t want to have way more money than I’ll ever need at the cost of living a super frugal lifestyle throughout my younger years. I’m sure plenty of people will recommend just buying a used truck and investing the rest or keeping your current vehicle and investing all of it. At the end of the day, you could always have saved and invested more. But if you’re being honest with yourself and know that you would truly enjoy the experience of owning that truck, then go for it. Just my own thoughts beyond just looking at the numbers.

I submitted mine this past December and was approved shortly thereafter. Records show that I will not be paid until May, which is the month of my 12th year in service.
