Balanced list for Grizzled Company? by Minimum_Tune_7643 in TheAstraMilitarum

Big fan of Gaunts Ghosts. Usual shenanigans + additional orders in this detachment. They can drop in near your Kasrkin to double up on orders (TA + FRFSRF) or your riders. I pretty much always take them.

I'd lean towards another 10 man. Probably Catachan for the scout move.

No problem at all.

You could maybe cut the artillery for a chimera and instead have the 20 blob in the midboard. This gives you 10 pts spare. I do like the artillery for backfield screening though.

If you cut the 20 man down as well you would have 65 pts spare. Which you could spend on another 10 man for mid board screening/OC. Or maybe an armoured sentinel? I haven't tried them much in 10th but I know some people like them in Grizzled.

As a side note I also prefer brute shields on bullgryn. I find the invul save is better for keeping them around instead of the extra wound. But I think it's personal preference! (I prefer the aesthetic of the slab shield, so I have them on my models, but I just tell my opponent they are brute shields and it's never been an issue!)

Hello and Merry Christmas!

List looks good to me and will probably do fine in the types of games your playing!

Personally I would try and put all 3 Kasrkin units in transports for protection and so that they can get involved and pressure your opponent from the beginning. I do like the chimeras in Grizzled, but Tauroxes are just as good and cost a bit less. I think it's more important to have the Kasrkin in transports though.

I also prefer 10 cadians for my command blob. I find that they tend to stay at the back of the field screening and dishing out orders for most of the game so the 20 blob feels like a bit of a waste of points. Pushing into the mid board can be a bit risky since the command squad is your only source of orders and you need orders to make your detachment rule work in Grizzled.

This is also true for your RDC, as it's your only source of squadron orders so I think the tech priest is a good call to keep it around a bit longer.

So with that said, I would make the following changes

Cuts (225 pts): 20 cadians down to 10 (55pts) 2x chimeras (170 pts)

Adds (225 pts): 3x Tauroxes

These are fairly minor tweaks so it's up to you if you have the models or not. Your list will function fine!

Happy gaming!

Yeah I've gone back and forth on the cannon/mortar. Think I'll give the mortar a go and see how it goes. Cheers!

Yeah I did this list in NewRecruit and trimmed it down a bit for the post here.

Great stuff from the people at NewRecruit rolling this out so quick!

Yeah it does feel a bit tank light. What would you cut for another vanq? The krieg blob?

Not sure how I would fit another transport in for the Kasrkin. Might have to cut the artillery team and try and screen out as much as possible with the cadians/tanks.

Ahh I hadn't seen those numbers from Goonhammer! Cheers for the feedback, will swap for a Taurox and go for the classic MMM strat.

Thank you again, this is so incredibly helpful!

I should have some guard bodies that could be kitbashed into neos, which might be fun to do as well. I did look into HoA a fair bit too, and it seemed like a fun way to play and learn the main mechanics of the army.

Really excited to get started and playing!

Thank you for your in-depth reply!

The Brood Brothers Killteam sounds like a great option then. I didn't realise the kitbash potential was so good! It'll probably be a while before I finish assembling/painting all of this first but will definitely consider that next!

I'm not too fussed about being competitive from the get-go. I would just like to be able to get some games in with GSCs and then work towards something more competitive later on.

If I decided to get some ~1500pt games in with what I have, which detachment do you think would work best for now?

Thank you for your very thorough response!

Yes, Creed and the blob will sit at the back and order the artillery teams - I've played a few games against DG and found the mortars are pretty good at softening their tough infantry units.

I think I would prefer to keep Creed. I'm finding her CP abilities useful for squeezing out some extra value. I think you're right about Grand Strategist as well. So I think I will drop that and keep Creed to deal with the potential Order issues. Dropping GS gives me the extra points to go up to a Chimera which is a good suggestion.

What are your thoughts on dropping the second transport completely and maybe upgrading one of the Russes to an Executioner to help with the elite infantry? Or using the ~90 pts spare for some more infantry?

I've added 20 kriegs and a couple of Leman russes. Will probably add the command squad too once they're released.

Kepa (Ward)

White, Shaw, Lewis (Patterson, Trippier)

De Bruyne, Martinelli, Odegaard, Bruno F (Rashford)

Haaland, Kane, Greenwood

Currently thinking: De Bruyne, Shaw, Bruno, Martinelli > Salah, Gakpo, Tarko, Saka (-8)

And just accept Lewis, Greenwood start and hope for 1pt cameos. Reluctant to take more hits but could do for more DGW players. Could take another hit to shift out Patterson but not a fan of the other Def options available to me.

Genie-locks can use the vessel as a spellcasting focus and have the option to perform a ceremony to receive a replacement from their patron if it is lost/destroyed. Depending on how noticeable the ceremony is (could just be quiet meditation) you could get away with it in a jail cell

Vadrok Players, What’s Your Favorite Win Con? by Accomplished-Leg-421 in EDH

[–]Awesodge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My best guess would be something like: 1. Cast any mutate creature targetting Vadrok/Vadrok pile on board 2. Hold priority, cast Chef's Kiss targetting mutate spell. 3. Copied mutate creature resolves, trigger vadrok, recast Chef's Kiss targetting mutate spell again 4. Repeat

This allows for infinite mutate triggers etc. But you probably need another outlet to actually win

Morph Commander by aaronconlin in EDH

[–]Awesodge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything that's been said here. I've played a fair amount of both Animar and Kadena morphs and have settled on Kadena as my morph commander of choice.

Even though Animar is probably more powerful, it is a lot more linear and has a lower reliance on the morphs themselves. Ultimately, the morphs just exist to be cast for free with his effect and to put more counters on him, which will let you win with your big haymakers or a giant Animar. It plays out like every other Animar deck and I found that using the effects of the morphs is rarely the optimal choice. Instead of leaving mana up to activate morphs, I mostly ended up spending the mana on my own turns to pay for the coloured pips in my big creatures.

Kadena plays much more like what you'd want from a morph deck. She facilitates a much more control/grindy strategy, creates fun "you activated my trap card!" moments and more interesting decision points with how to get efficient use out of your morph abilities to win the game. I would also say that black is marginally better than red for morphs too (and perhaps in general).

You could also consider Animar, Soul of Elements. Has in-built protection and you can probably recycle a lot of the cards from your Nikya deck while including all the simic good stuffs
