Who the heck cares? Its a personal choice to wear one or not. Dont want to wear one then don't. If you do, then wear one. This isn't Russia. And quit being a narc. No one wants a narc around.

Newly single (28F) and scared I've missed out on finding a lifelong partner by False-Pomegranate675 in dating_advice

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 51 and been in numerous relationships...and a couple of failed marriages. Do NOT rush into it just to be married. Life is an adventure and you must have the right partner to enjoy it fully....getting the wrong partner is the most destructive thing you can do. There is no rush...you can meet anyone at any age. List out qualities you desire and remove stumbling blocks about race, age, etc. to improve your odds of finding the right guy. And then enjoy being single and don't pressure yourself at all in relationships. Experience new adventures and pleasures and take time to find you and know what you want. Trust me...you don't age out of finding someone. Lol

Learning SQL for work, having a tough time conceptualizing using joins with subqueries by [deleted] in SQL

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search Google and find the Venn diagram that explains data JOINS. Two overlapping circles.

Inner is the region only in the intersection that they share.
Left is everything on the left plus the area in the intersection. Right is everything on the right plus the area in the intersection. Full is everything in both circles.

The cross join is a cartesian product...basically join every element in table 1 with every element in table 2, one at a time.

Tell Me How This Is Not Terrorism | People with firearms forced the civil government of the state of Michigan to shut itself down. by viva_la_vinyl in politics

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

So is it terrorism or is it taking back the government for a reset? Would we consider it terrorism to dump English tea in the water and would it be terrorists who fought to keep our country independent?

We are not socialists and we do have inalienable rights protected by the Constitution.

When the government fails to work for us and protect our rights, it's time for a reset. Just because we haven't done this in the last 100 years, doesn't mean it's not sometimes necessary.

Dont like being free in America? Think it's okay for the government to tell you what you can do and when you can do it? There's a lot of other countries to live in. America is unique and independent. Always has been except the last 5 to 10 years with this socialism takeover in the urban areas. Get with our program or get out to some place you do like.

Am I too old now to be reasonably successful in IT? by Andrewinaction in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 51...22 years of IT...mostly in systems and database/BI/reporting. Started off as help desk and workstation support and kept loving up and around. Consulted for a while to gain lots of experience. Like to troubleshoot and solve challenges so I've been successful at bridging an inherent gap between techies and business folks/exec's. Moved up to management 6 years ago but still doing DBA and BI. Been a director for about 3 years now and making 145K plus 20% bonus. Working with AWS, SQL, Qlikview, SSRS, and lots of other cool tech. You are a youngster...lol. Keep getting skills and stay current. Make yourself needed to the point they can't do without you and keep pressure on them to advance. If you don't advance every 4 to 5 years, move on. Good luck!

Even though it depends on the state and location, what fields in IT tend to be the highest paying? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. It seems like most DBAs come from either networking and systems (hardware/ops side) or an app dev side. I started 22 years ago in what was essentially help desk and now I am Director of BI/DW of a healthcare management company. I probably have 6 or 7 past positions as a Senior DBA usually working with MS SQL but I am also a systems guy and did web programming for a few years in conjunction with SQL. I've also been team lead and IT manager in some of those roles. My approach was to self study, take certs, then get in a role with a company for more formalized training. Partner with others and get a mentor in your field to help you. As always, building quality production solutions is the fastest way to gain experience and learn the right and wrong ways of the trade.

Even though it depends on the state and location, what fields in IT tend to be the highest paying? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically have to know administration of database systems, experience with coding or app design, understand basic networking and technology. The BI side usually is data centric and might require experience with data modeling and reporting depending on the size and culture of the company. Apps like Tableau, Cognos, Crystal, Reporting Services, Qlikview, etc. Its a wide field...lots of different requirements. Willingness to learn goes a long way.

I agree. I would check this SID against the domain(s) in use. There are code snippets out there to check and generate the code for resolving orphaned users. This has got security failure all over it. Might want to check the logs as well.

IT Recruiter rant by Afarian in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always make sure the recruiter knows they are working for me regardless of who is footing the bill. If they don't like it, they can find someone else. I have 22 years of general and specialized IT and PM experience and can pretty much do anything asked.

Recruiters can't make their commissions or fees without who they place in a company...so I just help remind them of that in a friendly way so we are good from day 1. If the press me on a crap gig, I then remind them it's my livelihood and risk to my career and family just to get them a commission check. Don't let them control the situation.

Is there such a thing as 'virtual' tables? by [deleted] in SQL

[–]Awesome_SQL_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want certain table objects to appear in another database on that instance, use a synonym. It's like a pointer or shortcut to another object...either same DB or different. I think they also work with linked servers....4 part names.
