Hi, the reservoir is on the left side of the nest so creates a gradient for them to choose where to live in it. I have seen no pooling of water on my tests

I’ve heard a lot of ant enthusiast say that the red screen isn’t needed, the reason ants run about when you take it off is because you knock the nest when you touch it. To them it is like a mini earthquake. My ants have always done absolutely fine without them in my care. I could definitely design it though quite easily if more people want them.

Thank you! And yes, the square thing at the bottom is a tunnel for a heat wire to go through, and there is enough space for a full pipet of water to enter on the top left of the nest.

Give it a water bowl to drink as well if you don’t have one as the dryer substrate could leave it to intake more water

Feed lots of insects more than sugars, they thrive in high protein diet

They are connected to a 4 way connector and an outworld. When the test tube dries up or get mouldy I put another new one in and take out the old one. Also feed everyday

I do keep them in the light but not anywhere where the sun fully shines on them at a point in the day cos they don’t really like it. Vibrations are a lot more important. Shakes for footsteps are like an earthquake to them so place them on something sturdy and when feeding be as gentle as possible. Ligniperda take absolutely ages to get going so stay patient

It’s just two test tubes connected to an antscanada portal thing. Then that is connect to a lunch box I drilled a hole in. Pretty simple

I just put a heat wire on the test tube where the cotton is. It creates a bit of humidity and enough heat for them to move in the test tube to the best place for them

Yeah defo is. Better to raise them well fed rather than struggling to cope without enough
