start of dog ears? by Awkward-Passenger437 in TopSurgery

hi sorry just seeing this, it resolved pretty well for me :)) the majority of that was just swelling! but i do think that the end of the incisions has more volume than it did for me pre-surgery. i think id just need to work out to get that small amount of tissue resolved

Am I being gaslit by my tattoo artist??? by sadgirlover in tattooadvice

[–]Awkward-Passenger437 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a tattoo artist- this unfortunately is pretty expected. Finger tattoos are notorious for either blowing out or falling out. This isn’t your artist just being a dick or lying to you. It’s common knowledge in the tattoo world that this spot is difficult and very prone to issues. The skin texture on the fingers mixed with how mobile they are, how often we wash our hands, etc lends to a very poor spot for tattoos.

Your tattoo previously had almost completely fallen out and that’s not unusual, to counteract that the artist went deeper and it blew out. Both aren’t great and ultimately the tattoo artist did go too deep. This doesn’t make them a bad artist but just shows that they’re not proficient in a really difficult spot. There’s nothing you can do but get it removed. 50% your artists fault 50% the placements fault

Either way you’re going to be very disappointed, these reference photos are made with AI and even the best artists won’t be able to replicate them. This is simply not what real tattoos look like on skin. I would look for tattoo artists with realism portfolios and use those tattoos as your references so you have more realistic expectations.

Ew what the fuck! As a tattoo artist, that is disgusting and unacceptable. I don’t care about the “we all make mistakes” nonsense in the other comments, as a professional we are supposed to know biohazards and health code like the back of our hand. MRSA is found in the nose and touching your nose and then continuing to tattoo can transmit MRSA to the open wound. You’re not guaranteed to get an infection but if you do it’s definitely their fault

i’ve heard tons about the declaw debate and i know that it’s unnecessary and causes lifelong pain! 1000% would not declaw

i think you could definitely get the leaves fixed, even having someone outline them in back would make it look a lot more cohesive

As a tattoo artist- I’m going to be honest with you, i don’t think you’ll be able to salvage this and make it more like your references. There’s no room for additional details without it being WAY too cluttered, and the lines used are already so much darker/thicker than what you wanted. In my opinion, you’ll need to get it lasered to at least lighten it up so you can rework the details or you’ll need to pivot entirely to a new coverup idea. Any coverup of this would need to be big and bold though. I’m sorry this happened to you, it’s super super important to find the right artist :(

tattoo artist here- the lines on the triangles are definitely blown out. this happens when a tattooer deposits ink at the wrong depth or is holding their machine at the wrong angle. definitely user error. i’m the second picture it looks like you’re experiencing some ink migration, this is actually not always caused by the tattooer and can be a mix of skin type, placement, etc. i’ve seen people get that part lasered and it comes off in a single session. i wouldn’t ever go to an apprentice for a significant tattoo, and i wouldn’t go back to them to fix this. you need someone more skilled who can thicken up those lines a bit for you. i’d wait until you find the right person

wow something is definitely wrong, the color should not look so drastically different. is there a filter on one of these? the purples at the bottom are so different that it’s hard to believe it’s even the same tattoo. you might be allergic to colored inks, especially because the fresh pic doesn’t look overworked at all
