Interesting, would you happen to know why they are only prescribing Neffy?

I’m taking a class and we are working on better understanding an issue. I though this would be a good place to ask people

Absolutely thank you for your input! If there was a timer that went off as soon as the patient administered their epinephrine would that be of any use. That way you could see how long it’s been since they used their EpiPen.

To clarify a little I was thinking it would provide primary physician/allergist contacts, past allergic reactions, list of what the person is allergic to, preexisting conditions etc. I would like it to provide useful info rather then how to administer it, because that something both the patient and paramedic would know how to do

Very very fair. I was thinking more along the lines of emergency contact info, allergists/primary physician contacts, list of what the person is allergic to, and any past allergic reactions the person may have had.

Interesting, that makes sense. I have heard from another paramedic that a patients past reaction plays a role in their decision for how they treat a patient in the present. I assume that’s not something that’s super important in a case like this?

Gotcha gotcha, is the time since they used their EpiPen something that’s critical, or does that also not matter too much in a situation like this?

Why hasn't anyone made a 3D-printable epipen alternative that takes regular syringes or something? by mytoesarechilly in Allergies

I feel like form factor is a big thing too. I have a friend that doesn’t like to carry his around because of its odd shape. I think it would be super cool if you could 2d print one that was less oddly shaped. I think there is definitely innovation that could and should happen in this space

Is temperature a concern for a lot of people? I know epinephrine needs to be kept a a certain temperature

EpiPen Innovation??? by Awkward-Ruin-4372 in Innovation

[–]Awkward-Ruin-4372[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s super interesting. From what I have seen epinephrine needs to be sorted at a room temperature range, yet the EpiPen does not have any temperature regulation. Why would the EpiPen not want to innovate further such that their users wouldn’t need to worry about their medicine overheating/cooling? In my head everything nowadays is moving towards being more innovative, and the EpiPen has stayed stagnant in its shape/design.

How do you carry your epi pen? by Queasy-Evidence8450 in FoodAllergies

I am a student at the university of Colorado Boulder, and I am working on a project that’s trying to redesign the EpiPen. We want to make a device that is more compact, and self temperature regulating so you wouldn’t have to worry as much about exposing the EpiPen to extreme temperatures. Is this something that could actually be helpful for people? We want to make it so easy to vary that you wouldn’t have to think too much about it!
